Nacogdoches County Commissioners issued an Order Restricting Outdoor Burning during today’s regularly scheduled meeting. The ban prohibits outdoor burning in unincorporated parts of the county for 90 days unless lifted sooner.
The ban does NOT apply to outdoor cooking provided the grill or smoker is placed on a concrete, gravel or dirt surface at least 5 feet away from any combustible materials.
Violations of the ban are a Class-C misdemeanor.

There is an increased risk for locally heavy rainfall and flash flooding across the majority of the region today and tonight, particularly deep east Texas into Louisiana. New rainfall accumulations of 2 to 5 inches are possible. Within the Moderate Risk area, there is a 40% chance of flash flooding within 25 miles of any given location.

Nacogdoches County is under a Flash Flood Warning until 1:15 CDT.

At 1014 AM CDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated
thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Flash
flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.

HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

SOURCE...Radar and automated gauges.

IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas,
highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor
drainage and low-lying areas.

* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
Nacogdoches, Garrison, Trawick, Melrose, Woden, Martinsville,
Douglass, Sacul, Cushing, Appleby, Chireno, Looneyville and
Lilbert.

La Nana and Bonita Creek will continue to quickly rise to near flood
stage.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Flash Flood Warning including Nacogdoches TX, Garrison TX and Cushing TX until 1:15 PM CDT. La Nana and Bonita Creek will continue to quickly rise to near flood stage.

Strong to severe thunderstorms will be possible again across the entire region late this afternoon, continuing into the evening and overnight hours. Damaging wind gusts, large hail and an isolated tornado or two will be the main threats.

Additional rainfall totals over the next 24 hours will largely range between 1-2 inches for areas along and south of I-20, with isolated higher totals of closer to 3 inches south of I-20. Rainfall may become excessive at times and result in flooding of low-lying and poor drainage areas, mainly this afternoon before rainfall rates begin to diminish this evening.

Rain chances, and for that matter, rain totals will continue climbing over the next 48 hours, especially south of the I-20 Corridor. Some of this rainfall could become excessive, possibly resulting in flooding of flood prone and poor drainage areas.

Safety Training Exercise Notice 📢

This Saturday, April 25, the UTS Police Department at SFA, in coordination with SFA's Emergency Management team and local and regional public safety partners, will conduct a full-scale active threat and mass casualty response exercise.

This is only a training exercise. There is no threat to the university or the surrounding community. 🚨

This training is part of a coordinated community preparedness effort involving law enforcement, fire and emergency medical services, emergency management, and school partners, so you may notice an increased presence of emergency vehicles and personnel near campus. 🚓🚑

Exercises like this help ensure our campus and community remain prepared and ready to respond in emergency situations.

Stay Weather Aware this evening and tonight, as Nacogdoches County is included in the area of Slight Risk for Severe Weather.

Strong to Severe Thunderstorms will be possible later today, through the evening and possibly overnight hours across much of the Four State Region. Large hail, damaging thunderstorm wind gusts and a few tornadoes will be possible.

UPDATE ON ETOILE NATURAL GAS WELL BLOWOUT

Emergency management personnel from several collaborating agencies remain on-site to address the blowout of a natural gas well in Etoile. The fire was initially reported at 11:20 p.m on April 20, and units from Etoile Volunteer Fire Department and several other local VFD’s joined Nacogdoches Fire Department in the initial fire response.

At this time, the site has been contained and personnel from Wild Well Control have taken over containment of the fire and will begin the process of mitigating the blaze in accordance with their protocols. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) will be monitoring air quality conditions throughout this process.

Evacuations affected three residences on County Road 5061 earlier this morning and those residents will remain off-site until further notice, however no additional evacuations are expected. Motorists should avoid travel in the area in order to keep important roads open for heavy equipment to move in for fire suppression efforts on FM 226.
