While I believe our bonds were needed ama fully support them, I also need our city council to communicate how we are going prevent the need of future bonds and increasing our ability to pay for our infrastructure that we borrowed money to fix. Hint: it's not by only focusing on building single family homes.

Keep reading on this IG post. There is more to open up this discussion that I think is a good discussion to have. How do you give grace so you can have community? How have your neighbors tolerated things about you?

As the original IG post says, this is not about tolerating harmful relationships or connections. So leaving those harmful relationships aside, how are you connecting in our community?

Did you know we will be voting on a bond for a new jail in November?

Are you for or against the bond?

Do you know who was on the citizens jail committee for the jail bond?

This is not a post for or against the bond, just a post about information and hopefully it will encourage discussion so you know how you will be voting in just a couple weeks.

Stay informed, Nac citizens! Public meeting alert for a signal removal on North St.

Walking Alert! There is a public meeting to discuss the signal removal at Lloyd St. and North St. intersection Tuesday June 17 5-7pm at the C. L. SIMON Rec Center.

TXDOT is discussion the planned removal of this light and is NOT planning to replace it, that i can tell, citing it being outdated and no longer functional. I hope you consider going to this meeting.

My take:
I live in this neighborhood and the signal is outdated and the functioning is slow for sure, but I use this light to regularly cross on foot to get to the coffee shop and several other retail spots along this section of North St. Without this light, Bowie St. would be the next option North and College St would be the next option south.

College St to Lloyd St is .2 miles or a 4 minute walk. College St to Bowie is .5 miles and an 11 minute walk. Removing this light extends a walk to the coffee shop or any number of other businesses on the west side of north St by 10 minutes and might increase the number of people who don't use a crosswalk to cross North St. Also, turning left on to North St from the neighborhood on the east side would mean no protected left turns out of the neighborhood in one of the busiest parts of North St (for both vehicles and pedestrians) for more than half a mile.

Firefighter 👨‍🚒 🔥 training on campus this month! Check the dates so you'll have ALL the answers when someone inevitably asks what's going on in Nacogdoches Talk 🤷🏼‍♀️🙋🏿‍♀️👨🏾‍🚒

Residents-

Nacogdoches Fire & Rescue will be conducting training drills in and around the vacant Arthur Temple Forestry building on the SFA campus from February 14-16 and again on February 18-20. The drills on February 14-16 will be conducted nightly from 6-10 p.m., while those on the 18th-20th will be from 9 a.m to 1 p.m. each day.

NFD personnel will be in full gear and will have fire vehicles on site during these exercises for training purposes, but please note that there is no need for alarm and no actual emergency taking place.

Lastly, a big thank you to Stephen F. Austin State University for their partnership and allowing NFD the opportunity to train on campus!

This is a great example of how to build areas of a city. We want to ensure that our ordinances encourage this type of growth instead of the strip mall type growth. The beautiful thing about Nacogdoches is we have plenty of space for both small areas of mixed use and neighborhoods that are near by these spaces. Whether you live near right in a space like this or are a visitor from a nearby neighborhood, spaces like this are far better than a strip mall with a giant mostly empty parking lot.

I'm a little late today, good citizens! Sorry!

We have a city council meeting today at 5:30pm.

There is a lot on the consent agenda, but not many items on the regular agenda. There is an award and recognition declaring June 12 as Women Veterans Day in the city of Nacogdoches.

As always, you can look at the agenda here

https://nacogdochestx.portal.civicclerk.com/event/387/overview

We are getting into budget season, but there is nothing on the calendar on the city website. Even the city council meeting hasn't been published on the calendar (check out the calendar picture below). How does the city expect us to keep up on what's going on when they don't publish public meetings on the calendar on the front page? We should get a schedule of planned public meetings more than 72 hours in advance and only on the agenda page. They legally have to be published at least 72 hours in advance, but that doesn't mean they can't put scheduled meetings out where the public can actually see it. I would love if some people would call or email about this problem.
