Job Opening – Public Works Laborer
The City of Nahunta is accepting applications for a full-time Public Works Laborer. Duties include performing manual labor to maintain city streets, water and sewer systems, parks, and other public facilities. Responsibilities include operating light equipment, using hand tools, assisting with repairs, collecting debris, and other tasks assigned.

Qualifications:
• High school diploma or GED preferred
• Ability to perform heavy physical labor in all weather conditions
• Valid Georgia driver’s license
• Ability to follow instructions and work well with a team

Schedule & Benefits:
• 40 hours per week, Monday–Friday, with occasional after-hours or weekend work as needed
• Competitive pay based on experience
• Benefits include health insurance, retirement plan, paid holidays, and sick leave

Low-interest loans are available for homeowners, renters, businesses, and nonprofits to help cover physical property damage and economic injury.

Today, the City of Nahunta honors and remembers the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation.

Memorial Day is more than a long weekend or the start of summer. It is a day of reflection, gratitude, and remembrance for those who gave their lives defending the freedoms we enjoy every day.

We ask our community to take a moment today to remember the fallen, honor their families, and reflect on the true meaning of this day.

From all of us at the City of Nahunta, thank you to our Gold Star families and to all who have served our country.

May we never forget.

đźš” TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO FENTANYL AND M**H ARREST IN NAHUNTA đźš”

On May 20, 2026, at approximately 1:42 p.m., Chief Brad Todd conducted a traffic stop on a gold Ford F-350 on Avalon Street at Georgia Highway 520 for a traffic violation.

After the vehicle stopped, the driver, identified as Robert Curtis Johns, 39, of Nahunta, reportedly moved from the driver’s seat into the passenger seat while the passenger, Robert Baylee Johns, 20, of Nahunta, moved into the driver’s seat in an apparent attempt to make it appear someone else had been driving.

Chief Todd quickly detained both individuals and secured the scene. Deputies with the Brantley County Sheriff’s Office responded promptly to assist after Chief Todd advised dispatch he had two subjects detained. The Nahunta Police Department appreciates the professionalism, teamwork, and rapid response provided by the sheriff’s office during the incident.

During the investigation, Robert Curtis Johns was found to be in possession of suspected fentanyl and methamphetamine. He was also discovered to have an outstanding probation violation warrant.

At the conclusion of the stop, Robert Baylee Johns was released at the scene, and the vehicle was turned over to a family member.

Robert Curtis Johns was transported to the Brantley County Jail and charged with:

• Driving While License Suspended
• Possession of Drug Related Objects
• Possession of Methamphetamine
• Possession of Fentanyl
• Hands-Free Law Violation

Chief Brad Todd stated:

“Fentanyl continues to be one of the most dangerous drugs affecting communities across our nation. Our officers will continue working proactively to remove these dangerous substances from our streets while maintaining strong partnerships with neighboring agencies and the Brantley County Sheriff’s Office. Public safety remains our top priority.”

The Nahunta Police Department remains committed to proactive policing and aggressive drug interdiction efforts to help keep our community safe.

Three Arrested Following Disturbance Investigation at Local Business

On May 14, 2026, at approximately 11:07 p.m., Detective Corporal Larry Champion with the Nahunta Police Department responded to 13299 Cleveland Street, also known as “The Local,” in reference to an altercation involving multiple individuals.

Following an on-scene investigation and witness interviews, three individuals were arrested:

• Jeffrey Robert Moody, 57, of Hortense — Charged with Affray
• Julie Lynn Moody, 42, of Hortense — Charged with Affray
• Shiane Taylor Sigler, 29, of Nahunta — Charged with Disorderly Conduct

All three individuals were transported to the Brantley County Jail and turned over to corrections staff for booking.

This incident remains under investigation by the Nahunta Police Department.

Today, we pause to honor and remember the brave law enforcement officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. On Peace Officers Memorial Day, we recognize the courage, service, and dedication of those who gave their lives protecting their communities and defending others.

We also extend our gratitude to the men and women who continue to serve every day, putting themselves in harm’s way to keep our city safe.

Please join the City of Nahunta in remembering the fallen, supporting their families, and thanking the officers who continue to answer the call.

We will never forget their sacrifice.
