That's a wrap on the 2026 Youth Tour. Our delegates rounded out their week with a visit to the Capitol and meeting with elected officials, checking out monuments and museums along The Mall, The Marine Sunset Parade and a sunset cruise on the Potomac. By all accounts they made their mark and had a trip of a lifetime.

Helena, a contractor working for OREMC, will be targeting high growth ground vegetation as part of of our annual right of way maintenance program. Over the next month, crews will be on foot targeting trees and brush under our power line rights away in the following areas: Waverly, Spring Bluff, Scrubby Bluff, Crooked River, Camp Pickney, Winokur, Hickox and a few trouble spots north up 301. These are some of the comments coming in from our OREMC Youth Tour Delegates. They have taken in many monuments, museums, memorial and are making lots of memories from Mount Vernon, and the National Archives to the World War II Memorial and the National Harbor.

The 2026 Youth Tour is underway! Chaperones Michele Hutchins and Kaylen Gill accompanied our OREMC Youth Tour Delegates to Atlanta where they joined 112 other Georgia delegates for a kickoff banquet and team building before heading to D.C. Delegates report Arlington Cemetery, Tomb of the Unknowns and the Pentagon have been interesting and meaningful stops. And they love meeting and interacting with delegates from across the nation.

We have several outages across the service area that are being assessed following the high winds that blew through on the leading edge of the storm front. Crews have rolled out and will work as safely and quickly as possible to restore power as long as conditions permit.

⚠️Stay hydrated. Wear lightweight, light colored clothing. Remain in an air-conditioned space. Check on the elderly, kids, and pets.

Congratulating Kimbree Gowen, Charlton County High School, for being selected to attend the Georgia Cooperative Council Youth Leadership Conference. Kimbree is a Majorette in the Charlton County High School Band, a member of the Women’s Golf Team, Student Council where she has served as president freshman, sophomore and junior year, Beta Club, FCA, and Family Career and Community Leaders of America. She has also participated in cheer, symphonic band and softball. Kimbree has been the 2027 Class Secretary throughout high school, serves as BETA Club Secretary, is an FCA leader and is the Youth Praise Band Leader at Folkston Methodist Church. Among her many honors are: Excellence in Science- Environmental Science, Sophomore Year Highest Average in Geometry and Spanish I, serving as a Page at the Georgia State Capitol for the House of Representatives, being named 2025 GRPA Golf State Champion and Golf District Champion, as well as 2025 GHSA Area Group Champion. Kimbree has also been a volunteer with Hunger Fight Organization in Jacksonville, School of Autism, Night to Shine, Folkston Elementary School and the Folkston Methodist Church Vacation Bible School.
