๐Ÿšจ INCIDENT OVERVIEW ๐Ÿšจ

At approximately 8:00 PM on May 27, 2026, Nakina Fire & Rescue and Tabor City Paramedic QRV were dispatched to the 2100 block of River Road in the Pireway Community in reference to a reported drowning.

Nakina Fire & Rescue unit EMS 10 and the Tabor City QRV Paramedic (QRV 21) responded to the scene. While units were enroute, additional information was received advising that an elderly patient had been located face down in the river. CPR was initiated by bystanders prior to the arrival of emergency personnel, and the patient remained unresponsive.

Due to the severity of the incident, Airlink 2 was requested for rapid transport to an undisclosed regional trauma center.

Chief 10, Truck 10, and Squad 10 responded to the 16000 block of Seven Creeks Highway to establish a landing zone for the incoming helicopter.

The teamwork displayed by bystanders, emergency medical personnel, fire department personnel, Airlink, and the residents who graciously allow us to utilize their properties as landing zones does not go unnoticed and is greatly appreciated.

We would also like to thank Columbus Central (Columbus County 911 Communications) for serving as our lifeline and ensuring responding agencies received the resources needed for a positive outcome.

Please keep the patient, family, and all responders involved in your thoughts and prayers.
