Update:

💗 Thank you to everyone who came to see these amazing stories shared for the first time! We definitely felt the love and hard work that went into making these!

📌 For anyone who missed the local screening, stay tuned for a link to view them online! Website link will be shared as soon as they are available.

✨We hope you enjoy them as much as we did!

Six young storytellers from Naknek spent this week learning the craft of filmmaking and telling salmon stories rooted right here in our community.

Join us this Friday, June 12 at 5:00 PM at the Bristol Bay Museum to watch their short films at the Currents of Connection community screening. These are the voices and perspectives that carry our relationship with salmon forward.

See you there!

🌿 Volunteer Opportunity at the Bristol Bay Historical Society Museum 🌿

We’re looking for community volunteers to help serve as docents in our Main Hall during the busy summer visitor season!

We especially need help on Wednesday afternoons (2–4 hour shifts) from May through August, as well as extra coverage June 10–16 from 12pm-4pm. You can volunteer for just one day, or all of them!! It's up to you!! 😁

Volunteer duties include:
✨ Greeting visitors and tour groups
✨ Sharing stories and helping interpret exhibits
✨ Light cleaning in Main Hall
✨ Assisting with our small museum gift shop

This is a wonderful opportunity for youth, elders, knowledge bearers, and storytellers to connect with visitors, share Bristol Bay history and culture, and support the museum during our busiest season. No expert experience required — just a friendly attitude and interest in helping visitors feel welcome.

Volunteer notes from the chaos coordinators:
✨Youth- This is a great opportunity to pad your college & scholarship applications!
✨Elders- you are NOT required to run the giftshop unless you want to…. That’s what youth are for!
✨Staff are available to assist as needed, we won’t throw you to the tourists completely unprepared.

If you’re interested or would like to learn more, please message us directly or contact the museum at 907-469-6873 to setup a volunteer schedule that works best for you.

⛵️ Please share with anyone who may be interested!

🎉 New Charitable Gaming Partnership Announcement! 🎉

The Bristol Bay Historical Society is excited to announce our latest Charitable Gaming Partnership with Alaska Commercial Company at their King Salmon grocery store location!

This marks a special milestone for us — our first non-bar pulltab partnership — and we’re thrilled to expand charitable gaming into a new community space where more people can participate.

When you play pulltabs at AC in King Salmon, you’re doing more than trying your luck — you’re directly supporting the Bristol Bay Historical Society Museum. Proceeds help sustain our ongoing operations, from caring for our collections and archives to developing new exhibits and community programs that preserve and share Bristol Bay’s rich cultural and maritime history.

Funding streams like this are an important part of keeping our doors open, protecting the stories of our region, and ensuring long-term sustainability for the Museum.

So next time you’re at AC King Salmon, consider playing pulltabs — and know that you’re helping protect Bristol Bay’s history for future generations.

Thanks for playing! 🧡
