Aerial Adult Mosquito Control Application Planned for Sunday August 30, 2026
Due to increased presence of disease carrying mosquitoes along the Boise River corridor of Canyon County the Canyon County Mosquito Abatement District will conduct an Adult Mosquito Control Application via twin engine aircraft on the night of Sunday, August 30, 2026 from 8:30 PM until Midnight, weather permitting.
Applications will be made to 46,545 acres. Areas to be treated are portions of the communities of Parma, Roswell, Notus, Greenleaf, Caldwell, Middleton, and Star. The area will be treated with a twin-engine aircraft, operating at approximately 300 feet with Dibrom® Concentrate at the rate of 0.67 ounces per acre. This equates to just over ½ of a shot glass of product spread over the area of a football field.
There are no special precautionary actions that need to be taken by citizens that live within the treatment area. The product is labeled for use over both urban and agricultural areas and is commonly used in response to mosquito-borne disease threats or large outbreaks of pestiferous mosquitoes.

The public is reminded that our normal larval and adult mosquito control applications are ongoing, however, extended periods of high temperatures have increased the amount of West Nile virus circulating in the population. “With the increased risk of West Nile virus, we encourage people to take appropriate precautions to protect themselves from mosquito bites” said Jim Lunders, District Director. He offered the following suggestions to reduce the risk of exposure to West Nile virus:
• Eliminate or treat all sources of standing water that can be a breeding ground for biting mosquitoes, such as:
o flooded fields
o birdbaths
o wading & swimming pools not in use
o clogged gutters
o old tires
If it holds water for 7 days, it can produce mosquitoes.
• Wear repellents while outdoors at dusk and dawn when mosquitoes are most active.
• Wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants when in mosquito-infested areas.
• Use mosquito repellents containing DEET, Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus, Picaridin or 2-undecanone, making sure to follow the directions on the container.
• Make sure all screen doors and windows are in good repair and fit tightly.
• Notify the District at 208-461-8633 if you have a site that is too large to be eliminated so it can be properly treated.
