The department provides primary coverage to the City of Nanticoke and W. Nanticoke (Plymouth
Twp.) Located in Luzerne County, with a population of 11,000, the department covers approx. 3 sq. in the City of Nanticoke and also provides primary fire protection to the W. Nanticoke section of Plymouth Twp. Our essential mission and number one priority is to deliver the best possible service to the com

munities we serve. The Nanticoke City Fire Department takes pride in its ability to serve the needs of our communities. Each day, our citizens call upon our Firefighters to respond to a variety of emergencies including residential and commercial fires, emergency medical responses, hazardous materials and special rescues. Fire prevention and education also play a major role in our service to the community. The Nanticoke City Fire Department is committed to the preservation of life and property and to increase the quality of life to our citizens.

Funds raised will go to assist the Nanticoke Firefighters with the care and training of their firehouse dog, Hahn, and the continuance of the Nanticoke Fire Prevention Program. Hahn carries on a long-standing tradition of teaching the community’s youth “Stop, Drop, and Roll”. Additionally, funds will help with the purchase of smoke detectors for the community as well as maintenance of their Fire Safety Trailer. Thank you for your generous support.

Glick Fire Equipment Company was at Nanticoke City Fire Headquarters for annual apparatus fire pump testing. The purpose of this is to ensure that all components of the pump operate according to the manufacturer’s specifications. All City fire apparatus as well as Newport Twp pumps tested successfully to their rated capacities. Newport Twp Fire was at Fire Headquarters today for their tests.

**INFORMATIONAL MESSAGE**

On Wednesday 6/17 & Thursday 6/18, between 730am and 430pm, E. Ridge Street between S. Market and S. Prospect Sts., will be closed to all traffic. This is due to annual fire apparatus pump testing. This is to ensure that all components of the fire pump are operating according to the manufacturer’s specifications.

6/14/2026 00:21. Nanticoke City Fire Department, Nanticoke Firefighters IAFF Local 2655, Hanover Township Fire Dept, Newport Township Fire Department , Kingston Forty Fort Fire Department for RIT, dispatched to the area of E. Church & S. Chestnut Sts. for a Residential Structure Fire. Upon arrival of Truck 1, a working fire was transmitted from the rear of 279 E. Church St. extending to the second floor and into the attic. This was a vacant structure and due to extensive clutter within, and structural deficiencies, this was primarily an exterior operation. At 00:32, a second alarm was transmitted for manpower bringing in Avoca Fire Department for RIT, Edwardsville Fire Department, and Plymouth Fire Co. #1 - Rescue Unit - Ambulance. Engine 3 established a water supply at Chestnut and Church Sts., Engine 2 established a secondary water supply at Chestnut and Noble Sts and had placement at the rear of the structure. A safety line was placed in service to protect the exposure property at 277 E. Church. Chief Boncal placed the fire under control at 01:53. Fire was contained to the building of origin. There were no firefighter or civilian injuries. All units cleared around 03:00.
