The Newport Twp. Fire Department is partnering with the American Red Cross for Operation Sound the Alarm.

If you, or anyone you know, needs a smoke detector, please visit www.SoundTheAlarm.org/GreaterPA or Call 833-315-0882 to set up an appointment for a smoke detector installation.

State of Emergency Declared in the Township. The Board of Commissioners declared a State of Emergency in the Township due to the heavy snow and poor road conditions. Residents are urged to stay off the roads and allow crews to work to clear roadways. Also, please refrain from pushing snow onto roadways. In the event of an emergency, please dial 911.

Not much has changed from the previous forecast and briefing. Gusty winds expected to increase overnight tonight, with rainfall expected overnight, and mild temperatures into the upper 40s (locally 50 degrees) by Friday morning. A Wind Advisory remains for all of Central NY and NE PA. A cold front sweeps through Friday, which is expected to drop temperatures back to sub-freezing by Friday afternoon. Post-frontal gusty winds return Friday afternoon as well.

Emergency crews are searching for missing 16 year old male Blake Hicks from Pond Hill. Anyone in the Lee section of the township or Pond Hill, Conyngham Twp who sees or knows his whereabouts is asked to call Luzerne County 911’s non emergency line at 570-819-4916.
