Dear Friends,
We know everyone has really been looking forward to spring, especially this year. Our homebound delivered meal recipients are the most welcoming to spring 2026. The winter of 2025-26 was one the coldest and snowiest in over a decade with temperatures often running 30 degrees below normal. This affects us all but for homebound seniors this was a challenge on many levels. Opening their doors wide this spring for fresh air and to greet their Meals on Wheels Volunteers has never felt so good!
Meals on Wheels empowers older adults who choose to age in place with independence and dignity. It begins with a meal and delivers so much more. This results in reduced loneliness, decreased food insecurity and fewer trips to the hospital. Older adults living with food insecurity are more likely to experience malnutrition, depression and physical limitations that affect how they live.

1. We need Volunteers to deliver meals. Delivering just one day a month (a route takes less than two hours), makes a tremendous impact. If this is something you are able and interested in doing, please visit the volunteer section of our website:

https://mowrockland.org/get-involved/

2. In these less certain times, we could also use your financial support to help insure our senior homebound neighbors receive our services. It will provide healthy meals, valuable safety checks and a critical link to the community. Please visit our website or click the link below to make a donation and an impact today:

🌟RAMAPO'S THELMA SHINES IN MAY🌟
Thelma McCray was born in Clarksville, Virginia, also known as Love Town. She was delivered by a midwife and grew up working in a to***co factory, where she learned the value of hard work and perseverance from an early age. These early experiences helped shape her strong work ethic and resilience throughout her life.
In 1969, she moved to Nyack, NY, with her brothers and sisters in search of new opportunities. During this time, her work included babysitting for her family’s children, as well as doing cleaning work to support herself and contribute to her household.
She got married in 1985. Sadly, her husband passed away five years later, in 1990. After his passing, she remained close with her family, who continued to be a steady source of love and support.
She later joined Meals on Wheels and has continued her involvement at the Center. Over the years, she has made many meaningful friendships along the way and enjoys coming in every day, where she finds connection, purpose, and a strong sense of community.

Have a couple of hours Monday morning, Memorial Day? We are in need of people to deliver meals. If you've done this before, you know it just takes a 1.5-2 hours to deliver a route and make the day of our senior neighbors on a holiday (note holiday meal pick-up time is 9:00am).
If you haven't delivered before, it's a great opportunity to give back to our older generation. Learn more on our website or call 845-624-6325.
Click on the link below to learn more and see the routes that are open on May 25th:

We had two wonderful companies spend the day on Thursday with their focus of giving back. Thank you KPMG and Keller Williams for choosing us and homebound seniors as who you were going to help on your volunteering day. You brightened our office and more importantly the day of all the older adults you delivered meals and safety checks to!!!🙌

🌟ORANGETOWN SHINES MAY's SPOTLIGHT ON BARBARA🌟
Barbara has been a proud resident of Rockland County for over 60 years, after growing up in Queens, NYC. She married a man whose family roots in Rockland County dates back to 1848, following their migration from Ireland. A proud mother of two daughters who were Girl Scouts, Barbara volunteered as a Girl Scouts leader for Troop #210 for five years.
Barbara built a fulfilling career of over 30 years with the New York Supreme Court. After retiring, she continued her commitment to service by volunteering with TRIAD, a collaborative effort among criminal justice agencies to reduce crime against seniors.
Being a member of Orangetown SAC for about one year, Barbara describes MOW as a wonderful lifeline to the community, praising the staff for their genuine care. She enjoys the center’s wide variety of monthly activities, especially Canasta.
Known for her thoughtful and respectful nature, Barbara brings a calm, laid-back presence to the center. She is quietly observant, adding warmth and Kindness to those around her.
