FOLLOW UP ON LAST WEEK’S POST FOR THE ARREST OF DAVID ALEJANDRO GOMEZ SANCHEZ FOR BURGLARY:

Napa County Sheriff’s Office (NSO) received emails from victims after last week’s arrest of David Alejandro Gomez Sanchez. These responses have helped detectives with their ongoing investigation, and they have helped uncover more burglary cases involving Gomez Sanchez.

All the burglaries were in homes that had an unlocked door or unlocked window. Minimal items in the house were disturbed at the time of the burglaries. The stolen items were mostly expensive handbags, jewelry and jewelry boxes. Detectives have recovered some of the stolen jewelry from pawn shops in the North Bay region.

NSO is asking the public to continue to email detectives as they believe there are more related cases throughout the County of Napa that have not been reported to law enforcement. Emails can be sent to Detective Solis at: [email protected] or Detective Winegar at: [email protected]

NEWS RELEASE: 08/21/2026
Napa man arrested for a series of residential burglaries

Napa County Sheriff's Office (NSO) detectives noticed a pattern in four recent residential burglaries occurring in the Hagen Road area of Napa. The victims stated their jewelry had been stolen from their homes but with no evidence of a forced entry. Earlier this month a suspect attempted to enter a home on Hillcrest Drive but was unsuccessful. That suspect was later identified as David Alejandro Gomez Sanchez, a 44-year-old Napa resident.

Detectives began investigating Gomez and learned he had been selling stolen jewelry at different jewelry dealers in Napa and Contra Costa County. Detectives also learned Gomez fit the description of a residential burglary suspect in Pleasant Hill, CA. Detectives from both agencies worked together and identified Gomez as the suspect in the Pleasant Hill burglary case.

On Friday, 8/21/26, detectives from NSO and Pleasant Hill PD served a search warrant at Gomez' residence in Napa. Detectives located highly valued stolen jewelry linked to Napa burglaries. NSO arrested Gomez on his way to his work site. Additional stolen jewelry was found in the vehicle he was driving. Gomez was interviewed and admitted to being involved in the burglaries. Gomez was booked into the Napa County Department of Corrections on related burglary charges from Napa County and Pleasant Hill.

Gomez works in construction and has worked on multiple homes in Napa County. NSO Detectives suspect Gomez has been involved in similar thefts dating back to 2024. Attached is a photo taken from video surveillance during a burglary. If anyone has information on thefts involving Gomez, or have video surveillance of him, they are encouraged to contact Napa County Sheriff’s Office Investigations via email.

Keeping It Clean
Last week, our County Public Works Roads Department partnered with the Napa County Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit to remove two derelict vessels from the Napa River.

Derelict vessels can create significant navigational and environmental hazards for our waterways. Removing them helps keep the Napa River cleaner, safer, and more accessible for everyone to enjoy.

We’re grateful to our County partners for their continued support, teamwork, and commitment to protecting our waterways, preserving the environment, and enhancing public safety. Together, we’re making a difference!

ARREST MADE - Possession of Child Sexual Assault Material
Today, the Napa County Sheriff’s Office Detectives arrested Robert Taylor Free, a 63 years old Napa resident, for being in possession of child sexual assault material. Mr. Free worked at a local Napa establishment, where minors are present. If anyone has information on this investigation, contact Detective J. Pinedo at (707)299-1502.

This case was started by Solano County Sheriff’s Office who originally learned Mr. Free was attempting to sexually exploit children online. However, because Mr. Free lived in Napa County, our detectives assumed the lead agency. Mr. Free was booked into Napa County Department of Corrections. His bail is currently set at $50,000.00.

Last month, detectives from both, Napa County and Solano County Sheriff Offices, conducted a search warrant at Free’s residence located on Harkness Street in Napa. His personal electronics were seized pursuant to the search warrant. During the search of his electronics, detectives found the illegal material in his computer.
