Heads up!!

🚧 Road Closure Notice: Deer Park Road — Starting 2/24

Heads up, neighbors! Beginning 2/24 through Thursday, Deer Park Road will have periodic full closures 8am–5pm between the Sanitarium intersections for large tree removals.

We're targeting 11 hazardous trees (high risk trees) along this stretch — many identified for removal even before the Glass Fire, and now weaker and more susceptible to wind than ever.

These trees are too large and too rotten to climb, requiring heavy equipment to remove them safely. Left in place, any one of them could fall and close this road for hours during a wind or fire event. Removing these trees now helps ensure Deer Park Road remains clear and passable when it matters most.

With rain expected in the area, please use extra caution when traveling through the work zone.

Please plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and use alternate routes when possible. We appreciate the community's patience as this important work continues. 🌲

What you’re seeing here 👀 is a remote-controlled mulcher operated by BurnBot on the Hogback Ridgeline Fuel Break Project.

This work is intentionally focused on closing gaps and strengthening continuity along the ridgeline, helping connect existing treated areas into a more effective, landscape-scale fuel break. When fuels are reduced consistently across a ridgeline, it can slow fire spread, lower flame lengths, and create safer conditions for firefighters to engage—rather than forcing them into reactive, high-risk situations.

Mulching dense vegetation on steep terrain like this is critical. These untreated pockets can act as weak points during a wildfire, allowing fire to gain intensity or spot across the ridge. By treating these areas now, this project helps transform the ridgeline from a liability into a line of defense.

During a recent site visit, the Napa County Fire Marshals Office shared why this matters:
“Fuel reduction is an investment in protection, prevention, and peace of mind. Napa Communities Firewise Foundation continues to be a tremendous partner—we are thankful and blessed to have them in our community.”

This U.S. Department of Agriculture, US Forest Service-funded effort is part of a broader land resilience strategy designed to connect treatments, improve firefighter safety, and reduce fire intensity before wildfire season begins. While not county-funded, the County, California - Government plays an important role in supporting the coordination, partnerships, and long-term planning that allow projects like this to build on one another—rather than stand alone.

Wildfire resilience isn’t created by a single project.
It’s built through connected work, shared responsibility, and sustained investment over time—from landowner access and community trust to funding and year-round capacity.

That’s how we make fuel breaks work the way they’re meant to: together. 🤝

Last week, the Napa County Fire Marshal’s Office had the opportunity to connect with Wine Country Special Event Professionals (WCSPEP) to share important information on Tents & Special Event safety and planning. Our team provided guidance on tent and event requirements, including plan submittals and inspection processes, helping event professionals better understand what’s needed for a smooth and compliant event. These conversations are all about building strong partnerships, supporting our local event community, and working together to ensure safe, successful events throughout Napa County.

We continue Adopt a Pet with Napa County Fire Department. Today we feature Engineer Kevin Gunther and Dottie.

Dottie is an 8-week-old female Shepherd Mix and approximately 10 lbs. She was found on H Street in Napa. Dottie is a sweet girl who may be a little shy at first, but she quickly warms up and reveals a heart full of affection. She absolutely loves being held, cuddled, and petted. Dottie is also curious, playful, and currently teething. Because she hasn't received all of her vaccinations yet, she isn't able to go for walks on a leash with volunteers just yet. However, this just means she's ready to soak up all the love and attention she can get in a home environment! Dottie is ready to unwrap her new life! All she needs is a family to share it with. Continuing the Adopt a pet with Napa County Fire Marshals Office today we feature Jameson and Fire Plans Examiner Jeremy Saxby.

Jameson is a 2-year-old Male Shepherd mix and approximately 86 lbs. He has soulful eyes, puppyish spirit and easy-going nature which makes him an ideal candidate. Don't let his bouncy cage presence fool you because it’s all just an act. Jameson epitomizes that classic Big Dog Energy. Two parts soft, one part gentle, with just a splash of silly thrown in for good measure. What you end up with is a dog that's truly unlike any other. Everything about Jameson screams calm and comforting. Think a warm bowl of homemade Mac and Cheese, but with a wet nose and wagging tail. From his slow, lumbering gate to his soul-mending hugs, this one-of-a-kind dog will absolutely melt your heart. When the sun is out, he may catch a massive case of the zoomies. Belly to the sky, this jumbo Shepherd mix rolls, romps, and races his way across the grass. Once the burst finally subsided, Jameson plopped down directly between us and cuddled his way even deeper into our hearts.

Continuing Adopt a pet with Napa County Fire Marshal’s Office today we feature Fire Plans Examiner Michael Toney and Dracula.

Dracula is a 4-year-old male Border Collie/Australian Cattle Dog mix and approximately 63 lbs. He was found in American Canyon with his best friend Mr. Bones an Australian Cattle Dog mix. Now safe, Dracula's true personality shines once he's out of his kennel. He can be a little shy with new people initially but warms up very quickly, often leaning in to soak up all the attention he can get. Dracula is good on a leash, though loud noises outside the shelter can startle him. He also enjoys his time in playgroups. Dracula's affectionate nature makes him a wonderful companion. Please note that he experiences significant stress while kenneled; this behavior is purely situational and not representative of his loving personality in a home environment.
