A few weeks ago, Spectrum News joined us for a behind-the-scenes look at the work being done to protect California agriculture from the Glassy-Winged Sharpshooter (GWSS).

The story follows the response from right here in Napa County to the CDFA lab and a grower in Temecula, showing how agencies work together to track this invasive pest and help prevent its spread.

Our own Agriculture Inspector Julius also helped explain what County Agricultural Commissioners do and why this work is so important to our local communities and agriculture.

Napa County Agricultural Commissioner/Sealer Tracy Cleveland is pleased to announce that the 2025 Napa County Agricultural Crop Report is now available.

This year's Crop Report features the beautiful cover artwork, "Fall Vineyards," by Victoria Mosconi Carrion, a sophomore at Napa High School. Victoria's artwork was selected as the winning entry in our 2025 Crop Report Cover Artwork Contest.

Congratulations also to our second-place winner, AJ Williams, and our third-place winner, Estella McCawley.

Thank you to all of the talented students who participated and shared their creativity. We are proud to showcase the artistic talent of Napa County's youth while celebrating the importance of agriculture in our community.

Harvest is starting a little earlier than usual, and with it comes an increase in propane cannon use throughout Napa County.
Propane cannons are an important tool that helps protect ripening crops, especially winegrapes, from bird damage. You may hear these loud, intermittent sounds during daylight hours as growers work to safeguard their harvest.
To help balance agricultural needs with our community, growers are expected to follow accepted customs and standards, including:

• Propane cannons may run 3 hours in the morning (up to 30 minutes before sunset, no earlier) and 3 hours in the evening (up to 30 minutes after sunset, no later).
• Using no more than one cannon per five acres.
• Placing cannons at least 600 feet from residences and animal enclosures and pointing them away from those areas.
• Moving cannon locations every 3 to 5 days, whenever possible, to maintain their effectiveness.

Napa County Code Compliance and the Agricultural Commissioner's Office respond to complaints regarding improper propane cannon use. Growers who do not follow these standards may be subject to enforcement.

The Napa County Agricultural Commissioner's Office, Department of Weights and Measures and Wildlife Services will be closed July 3, 2026 in observance of Independence Day. Our office will reopen Monday, July 6, 2026. Wishing you a safe and happy holiday. 🇺🇸

June 22-26, 2026 is Pollinator Week!

The week is a celebration of pollinators to raise awareness and spread the word about what we can do to protect them. We depend on managed bees and other pollinators to help produce many of our nation's agricultural products and to maintain a healthy environment.

In 2025, DPR awarded the non-profit Pollinator Partnership - which organizes Pollinator Week – for their work protecting pollinators and biodiversity through IPM-focused programs.
