Bob* didn't have the childhood every young person deserves.
After his mother could no longer care for him, he entered foster care. The trauma he experienced made it hard to adjust. Finding a stable foster home wasn't easy. At 16, Bob came to 360 Youth Services' Cornerstone Group Home. There, he found more than a safe place to stay. He found caring adults, counseling and life skills that helped him begin to heal.
Eventually, Bob was ready to build a life of his own. But life took another difficult turn when he found himself homeless with nowhere to go. Then he remembered the people at 360 YS who had helped him before.
Bob was welcomed into 360 YS Emergency Shelter, where he found a safe place to sleep, regular meals and the stability to focus on his mental health instead of survival. After his stay at the shelter, Bob moved into 360 YS Transitional Housing Program. That's where he met Aidan, a case manager who walked alongside him as he worked toward independence.
Aidan connected Bob with mental and physical health care, helped him build a resume, prepare for interviews and find a job. Once Bob was working, they focused on budgeting, saving and the skills he would need to live on his own. With caring support and plenty of determination, Bob embraced every opportunity. "During almost every meeting, Bob talked about one goal more than any other," Aidan said. "He dreamed of having a place of his own someday. Even when he was nervous, a little encouragement was all he needed to keep moving forward."
Then came the news Bob had been hoping for. Aidan told him there was an opening in 360 YS’ Rapid Rehousing Program which would help him get into an apartment of his own. "His face just lit up," Aidan said. "He immediately started talking about inviting friends over and buying a desk for his new apartment."
Bob had worked hard for this moment. He found a good job, saved his money, chose his first apartment and signed the lease in his own name. On moving day, Aidan helped carry Bob's belongings up three flights of stairs. "By the time we finished, I was sweaty and pretty tired," Aidan said. "But Bob just kept thanking everyone who helped him. He was so grateful for the opportunity. Moments like that remind you why this work matters."
In June 2026, Bob proudly unlocked the door to a place he could finally call his own. Today, he's settling into his own apartment with continued after care support from 360 YS.
Looking back, Aidan is quick to give the credit where it belongs. "I was able to encourage and support Bob along the way," he said. "But he was doing most of the heavy lifting himself. I was just a ladder to his success. Bob still had to climb every step."
Bob's journey wasn't easy. It took courage, determination and people who believed in him. Because of your generosity, young people like Bob have more than a safe place to stay. They have someone to encourage them, celebrate every milestone and help them build a future they never thought was possible.
