Of the 9 confirmed arrests, most of the arrested teen takeover participants came from outside of our township.

Big thank you to the Naperville Police Department for not only holding our own accountable, but also those who came here to cause trouble from outside the Naperville township.

NEWS RELEASE: Naperville Police Arrest 9 and Issue Dozens of Citations During June 1 Event

On June 1, 2026, at approximately 5 p.m., large groups consisting of mostly juveniles began to gather in the downtown business district, mainly along the Washington Street corridor between Chicago and Van Buren avenues.

The Naperville Police Department deployed several teams of officers throughout the downtown to deter criminal activity and to ensure the safety of all who chose to visit. As the night progressed, several juveniles and young adults chose to commit violations of state law and local ordinances. These unlawful acts were met with zero tolerance by the teams of officers and were quickly addressed with arrests and/or citations. Crowds were dispersed by approximately 11 p.m.

In total, officers arrested nine individuals and issued almost three dozen citations.

Five juveniles were arrested and charged as follows:
• A 17-year-old male from Plainfield was arrested for Battery and issued a citation for crossing a roadway outside of a crosswalk.
• A 15-year-old male from Bloomington was arrested for Obstructing Identification and issued a citation for crossing a roadway outside of a crosswalk.
• A 17-year-old male from Bolingbrook was arrested for Battery, Assault, Illegal Possession of Cannabis and Illegal Possession of To***co by a Minor.
• A 17-year-old male from Aurora was arrested for Obstructing Identification and Criminal Trespass to State Supported Land.
• A 17-year-old male from Romeoville was arrested for Disobeying a Peace Officer, Interfering with a Peace Officer and issued a citation for crossing a roadway outside of a crosswalk.

Four adult males were also arrested in connection with the event.
• Amaree J. Bivens, a 23-year-old from Naperville was arrested on four outstanding warrants, Obstructing a Peace Officer, and issued a citation for crossing a roadway outside of a crosswalk.
• Sudais Oyekanmi, an 18-year-old from Aurora, was arrested for Obstructing Identification and issued a citation for crossing a roadway outside of a crosswalk.
• Marshun J. Smith, an 18-year-old from Romeoville, was arrested Attempted Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer and issued a citation for crossing a roadway outside of a crosswalk.
• Tyler L. Sims, an 18-year-old from Romeoville, was arrested for Battery, Obstructing a Peace Officer and issued a citation for crossing a roadway outside of a crosswalk.

Police Chief Jason Arres said, “We’ve been very clear on our stance. We want people to come to our city, patronize our businesses, and enjoy all the amenities Naperville has to offer. But if you break the law, there will be no warnings; there will be no second chances. We’ve tried that approach, and it was met with a lot of disrespect and lawlessness. So, as last night proved, we will not hesitate to make arrests and issue citations for breaking the law. I want to thank our officers for their incredible teamwork and professionalism, the additional agencies that responded to assist, and our community for their trust as we work to keep Naperville safe.”

The Naperville Police wish to remind the public and the news media that a charge is merely an accusation, and a defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

The Daily Herald Editorial Board offers the Illinois GOP high praise for choosing Bob Grogan as its new Chairman. We agree. Bob was a great choice and we are proud to have one of DuPage’s very own as our state leader!

Today on Memorial Day, we honor the veterans who have served our country and the people.

It is because of these selfless souls that we are able to enjoy the freedoms and privileges that so few in the world can experience.

So, let us all take some time to thank those brave men and women today and reflect on what their service means to us.

Friends,

The DuPage Democrat-led County Board just increased the Chairman’s pay.

From nctv17.org "The county board chair’s position has been set at $185,000 in the fiscal year 2027 budget and will continue increasing incrementally in the following three years, topping out at $198,248 in FY 2030."

From $136,959 to $198,248 - that's 37% next year, 45% over the next four years for a part-time job.

The DuPage Democrat-led Forest Preserve Board just increased the President’s pay from $75,000 to $114,503 (52.7% raise).

The Chairman position is pensionable and historically both positions are not considered full-time.

What was your raise this year?

How’d the real estate tax bill that you just received look?

This is all completely unsustainable and voting to continue it because you don’t like Trump is a great way to get the value of your house obliterated.

We need sweeping change and now. Vote red and let’s put our county on a stronger path!

Kevin Coyne
Chairman, DuPage County GOP
