Naperville’s Water Utility regularly tests the water supply to ensure the city’s drinking water is safe and clean. One aspect of testing is the Lead and Copper Monitoring Program. This program tests water to monitor the effectiveness of corrosion control, which reduces the potential for lead and copper in drinking water.

The City seeks volunteers who live in homes with lead service lines to participate in the program. You can volunteer even if your water has been tested before. To learn more or to check whether your home has a lead service line, visit naperville.il.us/waterquality.

Another round of significant severe weather, including the threat of tornadoes and flash flooding, is predicted for much of the state on Wednesday. Now is the time to prepare, Naperville. Our Public Works, Police, Fire, and utility crews have been preparing today to respond to the impacts of storms tomorrow. Here’s how you can help:

Clear your storm drains and prepare your property. Last week’s storms left many small branches and leaves on the ground, along with larger tree limbs. Please check the storm drains near your home this evening and remove leaves and debris to help prevent localized street flooding. Secure loose outdoor furniture and other outdoor items that could be easily blown away.

Know where to get weather watches and warnings. Outdoor warning sirens are meant to do just that: warn people outdoors of impending weather threats. Have multiple ways to receive weather watches and warnings. The National Weather Service or trusted local or regional media outlets are recommended. A properly powered weather radio will also provide weather forecasts and alert you when a severe threat approaches. As a reminder, the City’s mass notification system, Naper Notify, does not send out weather watches or warnings.

Know how to contact us. For police and fire emergencies, dial 911. To report power outages, downed trees, and flooded streets, call 630-420-6060. Our call center can handle 50 callers at a time, so there may be a wait. You can also report downed trees through the Public Works Request Center at https://data.naperville.il.us/pages/request-center.

At this time, we do not have an update on how tomorrow’s storms may affect the ongoing special citywide brush collection. We will share updates on this and other weather-related impacts on City services as they become available on our website, social media, and Naper Notify.
