MCRD San Diego is happy to inform you that we will be re-opening graduation and what is historically known as “Family Day” for the friends and families of those Marines graduating on 17 June or later.
While masks will still be required by all those in attendance, there will no longer be restrictions on the number of guests each new marine may invite.
For those unfamiliar with family day, this is traditionally the day before graduation and one in which there will be a few events for families to observe such as the “moto-run” as well as participate in such as the marine 101 brief.
We made these re-opening decisions based upon the following conditions: the continued decline in positivity rates in our local community, the continued increase in people vaccinated, and the fact that guests/visitors to the depot continue to abide by our requirements with respect to wearing masks, washing hands and maintaining appropriate social distancing. This change also follows in line with the decision by the state of California to re-open events and facilities to near pre-COVID norms by June 15.
I recognize this is yet another change and i appreciate your flexibility; our intent is to try and afford you and your families as much time as possible with your new marine prior to and after graduation before they make their move to camp Pendleton, ca for the next phase of their entry level training.
Commanding General, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Western Recruiting Region, Brigadier General Ryan P. Heritage.
