We had so much fun at storytime this morning! Thanks to Naperville Public Library for having us and thanks to everyone who stopped by to sing, listen to a safety story, and check out the squad car! This week we celebrated the dozens of young artists whose colorful crime prevention messages made it into the 40th edition of the Naperville Police Department’s Crime Prevention Calendar! For four decades, this calendar has brought our police department, schools, students and community together around a simple idea: crime prevention is everyone’s responsibility. The totals from our recent Labor Day enforcement campaign are in … Our officers issued a total of 74 citations, including 23 for speeding, 27 for seatbelt violations, 10 for distracted driving. They also made one arrest for driving under the influence.

These totals represent the work of officers participating in additional dedicated enforcement details funded as part of the campaign and don't include any enforcement action taken by our beat officers or other units on patrol. This particular campaign may be over, but we’ll continue to be out and about in the community enforcing traffic laws and encouraging motorists to drive safely!

NEWS RELEASE: Naperville’s Annual Public Safety Open House Set for Sept. 26

The Naperville Police and Fire Departments invite all residents to attend the annual Public Safety Open House from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26, at Naperville’s Public Safety Campus, 1380 Aurora Ave.

Bring the whole family for this fun and educational day full of safety information, activities and giveaways as well as demonstrations by Naperville’s public safety teams. Fire Department personnel will conduct hazardous materials and flashover fire demonstrations, and Police Department personnel will make a mock traffic stop and DUI arrest, showcase the talents of the K-9 Unit, and demonstrate how the department utilizes drones and tasers.

During this free event, participants will also have the chance to view and interact with police and fire equipment and vehicles, gather fire safety and crime prevention information, talk with police officers and firefighters, dust for fingerprints with a crime scene detective, and learn the basics of calling 9-1-1 from real telecommunicators, among other activities. Food will be available for purchase from several food trucks during the event.

This week is National Co-Responder and Crisis Responder Week, and a perfect time to feature our department's Mobile Crisis Intervention Team (MCIT).

This dedicated unit is staffed by a sergeant, five officers, four department clinicians, and a Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) K9. This specially-trained group provides a higher level of support to residents in crisis, allowing for on-scene assessment, referrals or intervention when they are most in need and most receptive to help.

Naperville PD's co-responder model started as a pilot program in 2021 and became a fully-staffed, permanent unit in 2026. Having a dedicated team to respond to complex mental health and crisis calls is expected to build better rapport and trust between residents and first responders, provide a higher level of service to residents in crisis, and free up patrol officers to handle additional calls, conduct proactive patrols, and engage in community policing.
