Dr. Emily Ptaszek joins Baker Senior Center Naples as President and CEO!

Dr. Emily Ptaszek brings more than a decade of executive leadership experience in nonprofit healthcare organizations, with a focus on expanding access to care and improving the health and well-being of underserved communities. Most recently, she led a large community health organization serving more than 84,000 patients a year across 23 locations. Having previously served as President and CEO of Healthcare Network of Southwest Florida, she now returns to Collier County to lead Baker Senior Center Naples.

A licensed psychologist and experienced nonprofit leader, Dr. Ptaszek has dedicated her career to mission-driven organizations that improve lives through direct service, collaboration, and community impact. Her passion for supporting older adults, caregivers, and vulnerable populations began early in her career as a psychologist and has remained a defining thread throughout her leadership journey.

We are excited to welcome Dr. Ptaszek as we build upon Baker Senior Center Naples' enduring tradition of excellence, honor the remarkable vision and legacy of our Founder, Dr. Jaclynn Faffer, and set our sights on an exciting new chapter of growth and innovation.

🧶 Volunteers Needed to make Plarn Mats! 🧶

Looking for a meaningful way to give back to our community? Baker Senior Center Naples is seeking volunteers to help crochet Plarn Mats—durable, weatherproof, and eco-friendly mats made from recycled plastic strips ("plarn"). These mats will be provided to individuals in our community who are currently experiencing homelessness.

Our members enjoyed an afternoon of petting, playing, and bonding with these furry friends, which created connection for our members and these adoptable companions. Thank you to Patty Baker Humane Society Naples for making this a special day at the center, and for providing safe shelter and adoption services to help homeless and at-risk animals in our community.

✨ Member Spotlight: Cynthy Payne ✨

At 90 years young, Cynthy Payne is a shining example of what it means to thrive, not just survive, as we age. Physical activity has been part of Cynthy’s life since she was a teenager, when she first began ballet. That lifelong commitment to movement and wellness continues today as a very active member of Baker Senior Center Naples.

Cynthy participates in our high-intensity exercise classes, enjoys card games with fellow members, and has built meaningful social connections through our community after the loss of her husband three years ago. Her active lifestyle doesn’t stop there, Cynthy also plays tennis and walks 4 miles four times a week! Her strength, resilience, and positive spirit inspire everyone around her!

Are you Caring for Someone Living with Dementia?

The Brookdale Dementia Respite Program at Baker Senior Center Naples is currently accepting clients diagnosed with mild to moderate dementia. Our program is facilitated by credentialed social workers and music therapists who focus on:

Language skills
Reducing anxiety and agitation
Reminiscence and socialization
Building self-esteem
Overall cognitive support

Each session features a unique and engaging theme designed to support clients while giving caregivers valuable time to attend to personal responsibilities. Caregivers also have access to support and therapy groups led by licensed clinical social workers. Sessions are available Monday through Friday, 10:30 AM – 2:30 PM. Clients may attend up to three groups per week. For more information, contact Riley Costanzo at 239-325-4444.
