The saltmarsh mosquitoes have returned in full force. We have received hundreds of complaints this morning from coastal areas including Goodland, Marco Island and the Henderson Creek area.

We are actively working on the situation and gathering data to schedule our treatments. Saltmarsh mosquitoes are very aggressive biters, and come off the coast by the trillions, moving into populated areas on the wind.

If you are experiencing high volumes of mosquitoes, we ask that you please fill out a report on our website. There will be treatments throughout the week to target the saltmarsh mosquitoes, and we are working to provide relief as quickly as possible!

This girl is definitely not one you’d want to swipe right on! She may seem enticing with her stripey legs and lyre shaped pattern on her back, but don’t be fooled! She can spread 4 different diseases and only likes to live in places that hold standing water in your yard. You may seem like someone she’d swipe right for if you leave standing water in your yard, so do yourself a favor and dump that water out!

Why target mosquitoes in the larval stage?

Mosquitoes begin their lives as larvae in water, and when we find them, we use specially selected products designed to target that early life stage while minimizing impacts to other aquatic invertebrates and wildlife.

This approach is part of our Integrated Mosquito Management program and works by interrupting the mosquito life cycle early. By stopping mosquitoes before they develop into flying, biting adults, we can help reduce nuisance mosquitoes and lower the risk of mosquito-borne diseases in our community.

Another easy way to help control mosquito larvae? Dump out standing water around your home!
