Collier County Domestic Animal Services Collier County Domestic Animal Services (DAS) is the county's only open-admission animal shelter. All pet adoptions are first-come, first-adopt basis.

We encourage you to give an animal a second chance by adopting a shelter pet. Adopted cats and dogs are spayed/neutered, micro-chipped and vaccinated against rabies before you take them home, which saves you hundreds of dollars.

🚨 We asked our staff and volunteers to pick ONE animal to adopt. 🚨

And suddenly, nobody at DAS can make a decision. 😂🐾

Here are a few of their picks, but trust us, this is just a tiny sample of the animals looking for homes!

Think you’d have an easier time choosing? 👀 Browse all our adoptable animals at

🩺 Medical Monday with Dr. Erica: What’s Included in an Adoption? 🐾

It’s one of the questions we hear most often at DAS, and Dr. Erica is here to break it down!

While medical care varies depending on each animal’s age and individual needs, DAS adoptions include:
🐾 Age-appropriate vaccinations
🐾 Spay or neuter surgery, as required by Florida law
🐾 A microchip to help them find their way home if they ever get lost
🐾 A Collier County pet license, when age-eligible
🐾 Enough food to help new pet parents get started
🐾 Resources, guidance and counseling to help families prepare for life with their new pet

Adopting a pet is a big commitment, and we want you to feel supported every step of the way. Our team is here to help set you and your new family member up for success! ❤️

🍂 Some pumpkins need a little extra TLC. 🎃🐱

DAS has kittens who need foster homes, and you don’t need a pumpkin patch to make room for one (or four!).

Fostering gives kittens a safe place to grow, build confidence and get ready for adoption. We provide the supplies and support. You provide the temporary home.

Some of the dogs who need us the most are the ones who have been waiting the longest. 💔

These six DAS dogs may not be the first ones noticed, but please don’t mistake being overlooked for having any less love to give.

There’s a common misconception that dogs who spend a long time in a shelter must have behavioral issues, be difficult to train or somehow be less adoptable than the dogs who find homes quickly. The truth? A length of stay is not a measure of a dog’s worth, personality or potential.

Sometimes, the right dog simply hasn’t met the right person yet. Sometimes, a shy personality gets lost in a crowded kennel.
Sometimes, a dog’s age, appearance, size or breed influences someone’s decision before they ever get the chance to show who they really are.

And sometimes, the dog who has been waiting the longest is the one who will greet you with the happiest tail wag, lean into you for affection, make you laugh with their quirks or become the loyal companion you never knew you needed.

Shelter life doesn’t define who these dogs are. Behind every kennel door is an individual with their own personality, preferences, dreams and potential. They deserve the same chance at happiness as every dog who gets adopted on their first day.

Today, we’re shining a light on six of our most overlooked dogs.
Six lives that are so much more than the number of days they’ve spent waiting.

❤️ Look beyond the kennel. Look beyond the label. Look beyond how long they’ve been here.

You might just meet the dog you’ve been searching for all along.

Help us change the story for these deserving dogs. Visit DAS, share their stories and give them the chance to be seen.

🩺 Medical Monday with Dr. Erica: Lightning’s Journey Back to Health

Lightning was adopted from DAS a few years ago as a normal-sized cat. Today, after being surrendered back to our care, she weighs more than 24 pounds. That’s comparable to a 600-pound human. 💔

As Dr. Erica explains, food isn’t always love. While treats and extra portions may come from a place of affection, overfeeding can lead to serious health problems, limited mobility and difficulty doing the everyday things animals need to do to care for themselves.

Now, Lightning needs our help.

We’re looking for a dedicated medical foster who can help Lightning work toward a healthier weight through a veterinarian-guided diet, portion control and gradual, appropriate exercise. It will take time, patience and consistency, but she deserves the chance to feel better and live a healthier life.

❤️ Could you be the person Lightning needs?

If you’re interested in fostering Lightning, send us a DM or contact our Foster Coordinator, Mia, at [email protected].

Sometimes, the greatest act of love is helping a pet get healthy, even when it means saying no to one more treat.

🐾 Missing since April 2023. Found more than three years later. Finally, heading home. ❤️

This morning, a stray cat arrived at Collier County Domestic Animal Services after being found near Lakewood Boulevard. A quick microchip scan revealed something incredible: Shadow had been missing from his home in Naples, Florida, since April 2023, when he disappeared near County Barn Road.

More than three years later, that tiny microchip made an extraordinary reunion possible. Shadow’s family was overjoyed to receive the news and came to bring their beloved cat home. 🏡

Shadow’s story is a powerful reminder that microchips matter. Even after years apart, a microchip can help reconnect a lost pet with the family waiting for them.

🐱 Did you know Collier County DAS offers microchips for just $15? No appointment is needed.

One small chip can make all the difference. Shadow’s reunion is proof. ❤️
