We combined last night with Jensen Fire Department to train in the old Lamplighter Hotel. We would like to thank them for this valuable training opportunity, before they finished the demolition. Members were able to train on room searches, wall and door breaches, victim retrieval, bail outs, etc. The hard work these men and women volunteer to do in order to be the most prepared for their community is commendable. Who else would beat through double cinder block walls on their time off, just so they know how to best do so? Also a shout out to both departments for having great leaders willing to teach.

Naples City Fire Department is proud of many members testing for Hazmat this weekend. With a very large turnout, we hosted a class and test for firefighters from Naples, Jensen, Vernal, and Dagget County departments. We would like to thank these members for dedicating many hours to classes and training to better serve their communities. It was 8 hours of testing with 2 written exams and 3 skills tests. All skills passed! Now they wait for their written results.

23 yrs later. Another day of remembering the lives lost and the first responders brave enough to rush to aid. It amazes us every year the number of people that stop by to pay respects, see the flag fly, the trucks lights, and put their hands on Engine 81 that was on site that day. As we roll our trucks back in tonight we say; 9-11, we will never forget

Uintah Fire District has several firefighters from Naples and Vernal stations testing for their UFRA Firefighter 1 certification tomorrow morning. These men and women have spent countless volunteer hours on weekdays, weekends, and even Easter holiday, practicing, training, reading and rereading, and doing practice tests. Please keep them in your thoughts tomorrow morning, that all of their training and practice pay off. Good luck firefighters!

Could you find the hydrant on the left, after dark, in a snow storm? Don't forget your fire hydrants when cleaning up snow! Make a path from the street to the hydrant, and a 3 ft working area around the hydrant. If firefighters can't see your hydrant, they will have a difficult time finding and using it. Every second counts when an emergency arises.

Today we remember all that lost their lives to terrorists on 9/11/2001. We also pay tribute to all the men and women that rushed to aid, making the ultimate sacrifice to save others. Tragically many are still falling victim today from illnesses aquired while working 9-11. Naples Fire has a truck in service that was on scene that fateful day. Some of the damage from falling debris still remains. The names of the firefighters that departed that truck, but never returned to her that day, are on the truck in memory. Feel free to drive today and see the trucks on display in honor of Patriot day, and see the memorial on Engine 81.

Drew was a friend to many. His loss will be felt by our entire community. Our department gives condolences and prayers to his family and friends.

We at the Naples Police Department are deeply saddened by the sudden loss of our Chief, Andrew W Cox. Andrew, better known as Drew, served for over 20 years in law enforcement. Chief Cox passed away October 30, 2021 due to a fatal medical incident. He is survived by his wife, Stephanie, who is also a law enforcement officer, as well as their children: Paige, Erin, Shelby, Brady and Jordan. Words cannot express our condolences to his family.

Drew is best known for his dedication to the K-9 program and is a recognized expert in the field statewide. His impact in the Uintah Basin can be seen far and wide as nearly all local law enforcement agencies have expanded their K-9 programs with his influence and expertise.

Prior to becoming Chief, Drew was a dedicated Lieutenant, Officer, and Detective, spending many years investigating the worst kind of crime - crimes against children. He shined working with children as he was a big kid at heart. His dedication to investigating and illuminating child abuse makes him a hero to many.

Chief Cox garnered great respect from those around him throughout his life. He served in various capacities over his long law enforcement tenure, including working with Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office, Roosevelt City Police, US Marshal’s VFAST Program, Uintah Basin Narcotics Strike Force, UBTech POST Academies, and many others.

Drew created a huge network of friends and colleagues; he was a friend to everyone he met. There wasn’t a time he entered a room that everyone didn’t know he was there. He spent his life and career trying to make a difference for the people he encountered, both on and off the job. Many will remember his sense of humor and the fact that he always had a joke for everyone.

Our community will miss him greatly. The Naples City Police Department is honored to continue his legacy of service.
