A Marginal Risk for strong to severe storms for NW and N Missouri tonight and then areas S of a line from the Kansas City Metro to Kirksville on Wednesday. In both cases, the main threat will be for strong and damaging winds, including the potential for downbursts. Mostly small hail will be possible too, though strongest of storms may be able to produce to around quarter hail.

A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued through 10pm for the highlighted areas. Main concerns will be for damaging downburst winds and isolated severe hail.

Severe storms are possible tonight across eastern Kansas and western Missouri. While storms are remain possible throughout the afternoon hours, the most likely timing for severe storms is from 10 PM this evening through the overnight hours across east-central Kansas and west-central Missouri. Damaging winds are the most likely hazards, though large hail and a tornado or two can’t be ruled out. Locally heavy rainfall and flash flooding are also possible.

The threat for severe thunderstorms Saturday evening/tonight is now a slight risk (2/5), as the enhanced risk (3/5) has been pushed further to the west. Strong to severe thunderstorms are still expected, mainly across central MO and for locations to the west. With instability waning after sunset, confidence is low in the eastward extent of severe thunderstorms tonight.

Severe weather continues to be expected this afternoon and evening. All severe hazards (large hail, damaging winds, and tornadoes) will be possible. However, large hail will be the primary threat during initial stages of storm development, with damaging winds becoming more likely as storms congeal into lines or clusters. Isolated tornadoes are also possible, especially if storms remain discrete. Stay weather aware today!

Isolated thunderstorms are trying to develop ahead of the cold front in eastern Kansas and northwestern Missouri. Additional storms have been attempting along the cold front farther west in Kansas into Nebraska. Storms are expected to be strong to severe.
