Naselle-Grays River Valley School District

Naselle-Grays River Valley School District The Naselle-Grays River Valley School District is located 30 miles east of the Pacific Ocean in southwest Washington.

Our mission is to create a caring educational environment where relevant life-long learning is promoted, citizenship is honored, and each student is inspired to excel. The 300 students occupy an elementary, middle, and high school. The district also operates Naselle Youth Camp School, a state institutional school for approximately 85 junior/senior high students. Special services are also provided

through a cooperative program with the Educational Service District 112. The basis for the economic stability of the district is logging, fishing, and farming. The largest employer is the Naselle Youth Camp, a correctional facility for juveniles. Local residents value the un-crowded quality of life found in the area and regularly demonstrate their commitment to excellent education for their students through continual support of school district levies. Naselle is of interest to anyone who enjoys a quiet lifestyle, hunting, fishing, camping, and hiking. Astoria and Long Beach provide commercial and recreational needs, only 20 minutes away. The Naselle-Grays River Valley School District is an equal opportunity educational institution and will not discriminate on the basis of sex, race, creed, religion, color, national origin, sexual orientation, gender expression, veteran or military status, disability, age, use of a guide dog or service animal, and, if applicable, will provide equal access to the Boy Scouts of America and other designated youth groups.

🚌 **School Bus Safety Reminder**

As we begin the new school year, please remember when drivers are required to stop for a school bus under **Washington State law (RCW 46.61.370).**

* **2-lane roads:** Traffic in **both directions must stop** when a school bus has its red lights flashing and stop sign extended.
* **3 or more marked lanes:** Traffic traveling in the **same direction as the bus must stop**. Drivers traveling in the opposite direction are not required to stop.
* **Roads with a center turn lane:** Drivers traveling in the **same direction as the bus must stop**.
* **Divided roadways or roads with a median:** Only traffic traveling in the **same direction as the bus must stop**.

Drivers who illegally pass a stopped school bus face a **mandatory $500 fine**.

Most importantly, please continue watching carefully for students even after the bus begins moving and its lights are no longer flashing.

**When in doubt, STOP. Help us keep our students safe!** πŸ›‘πŸšŒ

**πŸŽ‰ 2026–27 Kindergarten & First Grade Classroom Update πŸŽ‰**

We have an exciting update to share with our families!

After continued discussion and thoughtful consideration of staff recommendations, we have decided to begin the 2026–27 school year with **one kindergarten classroom and one first-grade classroom**.

While this means our first-grade class will be larger than originally planned, we believe keeping kindergarten and first grade in separate classrooms will provide the strongest learning environment for our students.

A big **thank you** to our families and staff for your patience, feedback, and support as we worked through this decision. πŸ’™πŸ’›

We are excited about the year ahead and can’t wait to welcome our students back next week! **Go Comets!**

**2026–27 Kindergarten and First-Grade Classroom Update**

As mentioned in our June 16 update, based on current enrollment, we are planning to begin the school year with a **combined Kindergarten/First-Grade classroom** and a separate First-Grade classroom. This will help us create more balanced class sizes.

To be clear, first-grade students in the K/1 classroom **will not be repeating kindergarten**. They will remain first-grade students and receive instruction based on first-grade standards and curriculum. Kindergarten students will receive kindergarten-level instruction.

Mrs. Bosch will teach the K/1 classroom, and Mrs. Colquhoun will continue as the first-grade teacher.

With school starting next Thursday, **we are checking enrollment numbers daily across all grade levels**, with particular attention to Kindergarten and First Grade. In a small district, even a few additional students can make a difference in how we organize our classrooms.

**If your child has not yet enrolled for the 2026–27 school year, please come into the school office and enroll as soon as possible.** This is especially important for families with students entering **Kindergarten or First Grade** so that we have the most accurate numbers possible as we make final preparations for the start of school.

Thank you for helping us prepare for a great start to the school year!
