Please be aware Nash residents!

Get Ready... It starts tomorrow.

Crews will begin setting up barricades and construction warning signs along Interstate 30 on Wednesday as a major construction project to widen the roadway begins. Actual construction and some lane closures will begin later this month.

The $88.9 million TxDOT project is expected to take four years to complete. They will be completely reconstructing the highway and widening it from four to six lanes from just west of Kings Highway all the way to Stateline Avenue. They are also adding concrete barriers with safety lighting to divide opposing lanes of traffic.

It's going to be very nice when it is all done, but you should expect that things will likely be difficult for drivers out there for the next few years. We suggest that you start scouting out alternative routes now so you can avoid all the construction headaches.

With “Back To School” season starting up again for some of our children, we wanted to share some of our favorite tips on how you all can stay safe!

1: Always look both ways before crossing the street, and if you’re a driver, please be aware of increased foot traffic in the Burton, Freiberger, Greenwood area.

2: Stop for buses! Please don’t be the person who tries to drive around a stopped school bus who is picking up or dropping off children!

3: Talk to your children about stranger safety.

4: Obey all traffic signals and speed limit signs!

What are some of your favorite back to school safety tips? Please post below, and you may see your comment on our back to school safety e-poster!

The men and women of the Nash Police Department sends their prayers to the McAllen Texas Police Department as they mourn the murder of two of their officers.
These brave souls were simply responding to a domestic violence call with the hopes of protecting the victim, but instead were met with gunfire in an ambush attack.
We will post more information as more information is made available.
We ask you to please pray for the families of the fallen officers, and for law enforcement as a whole.

Good Evening citizens of Nash!

We want to take this opportunity to address some parking issues on a few streets in Nash, namely, Blocker Lane, Greenwood, and the Watts Heights Community.

During our routine patrol we have found it difficult to navigate through these streets due to multiple illegally parked vehicles. When parking on the street, the right tire of your vehicle needs to be within 18 inches from the curb. You are also required to face your vehicle in the direction of the normal flow of traffic. The easiest way to remember this is to always park with your headlights facing traffic as if you were driving.

Not only is this a good way to be kind to your neighbors, but this is also important for safety as well. Please don’t be the reason that an Ambulance or Fire Truck is unable to provide emergency services to members of our community!

If you have any questions or complaints, please feel free to contact us at 903-838-0822, or email me directly at [email protected] .

Thank you all for making this the best community to live in!
(photo taken at an angle to demonstrate what 18 in from the curb looks like 😊)

It seems like it is that unfortunate time of year again where we have to remind our fine citizens to lock their car doors. 😫
There has been a series of vehicle burglaries between our communities here in Bowie County, and the common denominator is that our victims have left their car doors unlocked.
Please make sure you lock your car doors every night, and take valuables inside.

“In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as Police Week. “

We would like to celebrate all of our brothers and sisters this week, and especially today on Peace Officer Memorial Day.

Thank you so much to all of the members of our community who brought us sweets and little gifts throughout the week, it was very much appreciated.

This post is taken directly from the Texarkana Texas Police Department page. We at the Nash Police Department would like to offer our sincere condolences to our brothers and sisters in blue at TTPD, and the friends and family of Captain Joe Bunting. You are all in our prayers.

“It’s with a broken heart that we share the passing of Texarkana Texas Police Captain Joe Bunting, who died unexpectedly at his home after work last night.

Joe served law enforcement for over 40 years - including 35 years of exemplary service with our department. He held the rank of captain for the last 19 years of his career. He had previously worked for the Stephen F. Austin University and Nacogdoches Texas Police Departments. He was also a Marine Corps veteran.

During his devoted service to this department, Joe served as a Field Training Officer, Patrol Sergeant, Patrol Lieutenant, Office of Professional Responsibility, City Marshal, Uniform Services Commander, Investigative Services Commander, and Interim Chief of Police.

He is survived by his wife, Dr. Alice Bunting, and three sons, Joey, Sam, and John - as well as his brothers and sisters at the Texarkana Texas Police Department.

Please keep Joe’s family in your thoughts and prayers during this most unexpected loss.

Rest in Peace, Captain Bunting…”

Well it seems like we just can’t catch a break with the weather, folks!

We’re keeping an eye out for a severe storm system headed our way.

(The photograph attached is from the weather channel app, the officers at Nash Police Department are not professional storm trackers, the officer who is responsible for the page is just guilty of watching “Twister” repeatedly in the 90s. )

This should be hitting us between 1030pm and 1130pm tonight, and lasting for most of the evening.

As always, the Nash Police Department is not a professional weather tracking service, we just want to make sure our citizens are prepared for anything that may come our way! We would like to direct our followers to KSLA’s page for up to the minute weather updates. The link to their weather page will be posted in the comments below.

Weather Alerts

Good Evening everyone!

We just wanted to let our citizens know that we are currently under a tornado watch until 12am.

This doesn’t mean that a tornado will happen, just that the conditions are favorable for one to form. (we’re all Texans, trained in the fine art of hunkering down if we need to, all those years of lining the hallways with textbooks over our heads has left us all fully prepared)

We recommend charging your phones, figuring out the safest place in your homes (the most interior room without windows), and keeping an eye on the weather.

If anything changes we will keep you posted. The Nash page is NOT an official weather site, if you are looking for more in depth information please check out:

Good afternoon citizens of Nash!

If you have previously reached out to us regarding a “birthday parade” and we haven’t responded, please know that we are having a few technical issues regarding receiving messages through this app.

Please send requests to:
[email protected]

We are doing this specifically for children turning 14 or younger who reside within the Nash city limits.

Please note that this depends completely on availability of our officers. We LOVE doing this and seeing the joy that it brings, however, our response to 911 calls is always the first priority.

Thank you all for being part of our amazing community!

We did it again!

We were heartbroken last night that due to some unforeseen circumstances we had to leave Greenwood Street out of the parade.

We realized that it would have been unsafe yesterday evening to attempt our path of turning around in Abbington Glen back onto highway 82 with the nearly 80 vehicles, and unfortunately had to alter our route.

We promised our Greenwood kids that we would be back, and tonight we made it happen!!!!

We would like to thank Ms. Luna, Nash Elementary School, Nash Fire Department, and many many others who all turned up AGAIN to lift the spirits of our Greenwood community!

We truly hope that this brought joy to our residents, we look forward to seeing you all at our next big event in October for “NASH”IONAL NIGHT OUT!!!

04/16/2020

Hey everyone!!!

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH for participating in our parade! We had nearly **80** cars in our parade, including teachers, staff, city officials, and local media!!

We wish we could have hit every street in Nash, but due to the AMAZING response from our community the parade lasted nearly 2 hours and we had to cut our route a little short. 😞

Please post your pictures and videos below, or email them to [email protected] so we can create an album!!!

Sending you all lots of love, and again, thank you all so so much!!!

Shoutout to all of our Nash Elementary School kids and parents!!!

Have you been missing your teachers? They sure have been missing all of you! Starting at 6pm on Wednesday, April 15th, we will be assisting TISD with a social distancing parade! If you’re looking for a fun and creative project to do with your children over the next few days, consider making posters or writing sidewalk chalk messages in your driveways to say hello to our Nash Elementary School Faculty and Staff, and our Nash City Officials!

If your home is not along the parade route, consider driving to one of the areas listed in the flyer. There is also a big parking lot next to The First Baptist Church of Nash located at South Pecan and Highway 82 that we will also drive by as we approach the Pecan Valley Circle neighborhood.

For safety reasons, and also to practice good social distancing, we ask that parents please keep their children in their front yards and to not come out onto the street or approach the vehicles.

Make sure you and your kiddos are listening for Police and Fire sirens, and for your teachers honking their horns!

(Please zoom in on this flyer if you are viewing from a phone. Parents, please check your e-mail for messages from TISD, and give the TISD Nash Elementary page a follow!)

WE CANNOT WAIT TO SEE EVERYONE! 😊

04/12/2020

We are currently under a severe storm warning, we will keep you all posted if there are any changes as this storm develops.

If you haven’t already, please take a moment to give our page a “like” or a “follow” to keep up with all of the information regarding our wonderful city!

The Nash Police Department has seen on various social media platforms that some local agencies are doing their part to lift the spirits of children in their communities who are stuck at home on their birthday. We think this is an AMAZING idea, and would like to do our part! We’re happy to drive by your house and hit our lights and sirens! We know that it’s hard for kids to understand social distancing, and we welcome any ideas to make this dark time a bit brighter.

Please send us a message, or call us at 903-838-0822 and let us know what we can do to help.

Thank you Paris, Texas Police Department for putting this idea out there!

Per order of Judge Bobby Howell, all of Bowie County, including Nash and all cities within Bowie County, are ordered to shelter in their place of residence.

We ask for our citizens, as reasonably as possible, maintain social distancing of at least six feet from any other person when they are outside their residence. All persons may leave their residences only for essential activities, essential Governmental Functions, or to operate essential businesses.

Your Nash Police Department wants to remind you that we are still available to everyone at all hours of the day and night.

We thank you all so much for doing your part in preventing the spread of COVID-19.

This was shared on our page several years ago, but we could always do with a reminder! Please stay aware, and help us protect our citizens by paying attention to your surroundings!

“Many people may not know, but there is a flashing crosswalk sign in the 1300 block of North Kings Highway by BWI. The sign was installed by TXDOT to keep pedestrians safe when crossing the highway. If you see the sign flashing, it means that a pedestrian is about to enter, or is in the marked crosswalk on the highway. Please slow down and look for pedestrian traffic as you approach this area!
The Nash Police Department will be working traffic enforcement in that area continuously. Please help us keep our citizens and the people who work in Nash safe!”

The city of Nash should petition the TxDot for traffic control signals on hwy 82 @ Pecan. With all the new development and it having direct access to the I-30 frontage rd it would greatly reduce the hazardous traffic conditions that are quickly increasing.
