I have Loved this festival since the first time I went. This gift of music brings little Nashville renowned musicians from around the World! And it’s FREE! They ask only for a donation-IF you wish!
It’s a gift to everyone who comes to these concerts. Every single concert. Every single year! BUT…..last night was the exception.
The musical artistry presented to us in the final number of this season-Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, was one of the most brilliantly performed pieces I’ve ever heard! The pianist, renowned Artist, Spencer Meyer, brought the place alive….and everyone to their feet. His bio of musical accomplishments around the world is more than a page long of impressive assignments. And we were blessed with his artistry right here in little Nashville!
And the backup musicians were brilliant as well. As a friend said to me at the conclusion: it was as if there was an entire orchestra on stage, not a handful of seven musicians. What an awesome way to end this Season’s festival! 👏👏👏👏👏

Yes, there’s pure art in them thar hills.
And they brought the artists. And they do yet today.
Autumn will be here soon. We invite you to come visit our little picturesque piece of America.
You won’t be disappointed!

By the 1920s, word had spread among American painters that the hills around Nashville, Indiana held light like almost nowhere else in the country. 🎨 Artists began arriving from Chicago, Indianapolis, and beyond, drawn by the rolling ridgelines and the way autumn set the whole landscape on fire in orange and crimson. What started as a handful of painters camping out on hillsides grew into the Brown County Art Colony, one of the longest running art communities in America.

These weren't wealthy hobbyists. Many artists lived simply in cabins and farmhouses through the winter just to be there when the light turned right each fall, hauling easels up hillsides and mixing oils outdoors no matter how the weather behaved. The work they made put Brown County on the map as a serious destination for American landscape painting, not just a pretty backdrop but a place people traveled specifically to see through an artist's eyes.

A hundred years later, that same colony spirit is still alive in Nashville's galleries and studios, and the hills still turn the same colors every October. Some things about Indiana just don't need updating. 🍂
