π‘οΈ Shield Our School: A New Standard Of Safety π«πͺ
At Shield Our School, we are determined to establish a New Minimum Standard of Safety for all schools and campuses. Our goal is to create a comprehensive framework that safeguards educational institutions against the specific threat they face.
β
Just like commercial buildings, schools should meet a stringent standard of safety and adhere to comprehensive building codes. Fire safety, means of egress, accessibility (ADA compliance), and more should be prioritized. If these codes are not followed precisely, modifications and improvements must be made to ensure compliance.
π’ All fifty states and the District of Columbia already adhere to national standards set by the IBC (International Building Codes). Additionally, each state has its own adapted fire and building construction safety codes and standards. We believe that schools should be held to similar rigorous standards to guarantee the safety of our students and educators.
π½οΈ Just as restaurants are routinely inspected and graded for compliance with health and safety regulations, we propose a similar program for schools. Unannounced inspections, evaluation of safety measures, and clear communication of results to the public can ensure accountability and promote continuous improvement.
π‘ With these principles in mind, we aim to develop a program uniquely designed for the purpose of safeguarding our schools and campuses. Our focus will be on fortifying existing buildings and implementing enhanced safety requirements for new construction projects.
π Join us in advocating for this new standard of safety for our schools. Together, we can create an environment where our children can learn and thrive without fear, setting a precedent for safer schools nationwide. ππ
