CASA Nashville Training and supervising volunteers to advocate for abused and neglected children in Nashville.

The Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) program came to Nashville in 1983 when it was established by the Junior League of Nashville and the local chapter of the National Council of Jewish Women. Together, these organizations provided start-up funding and formed the first steering committee. CASA Nashville was the first of 26 local CASA programs serving 45 counties across Tennessee. CASA Nashville's main objective is to recruit and train community volunteers who will advocate on behalf of children caught in the court system due to abuse and neglect. After training, volunteer advocates are appointed to cases by judges, expediting the process through which the abused and neglected children we serve are placed in safe and permanent homes. Advocates exclusively focus on the needs of the child or children on their case and express these needs and the child’s point of view in court. Our volunteers’ commitment to and knowledge of their cases helps to provide judges with the information necessary to make tough decisions.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for CASA Nashville’s Volunteer Summit! We’re so grateful for the incredible volunteers who give their time, compassion, and dedication to ensure children in foster care have a voice.

Our CASA Volunteer Advocates are more than advocates. They are extraordinary members of the Nashville community who show up for children when they need it most. We loved bringing everyone together to connect, learn, and grow in this important work.

Many of the families we serve live below the poverty line, and foster families are often stretched thin. Gift cards can help make holiday celebrations possible, whether that means putting ingredients on the table for a special meal or choosing a gift that brings joy to a child who has already been through so much.

CASA Nashville is collecting gift cards to help children, parents, and foster parents celebrate the season with a little more comfort, dignity, and choice. 💙

Our CASA Nashville team had a great time at the first-ever Tri-State CASA Conference! 💙⛰️

Alongside CASA professionals from Tennessee, Kentucky, and Georgia, we came together to share ideas, learn new strategies, and strengthen our skills in volunteer management, training, community engagement, and more.

Just like trail guides help others navigate the path to permanency, CASA staff support our volunteers every step of the way as they advocate for children. We’re leaving inspired, energized, and ready to keep climbing toward a brighter future for the children and families we serve! 💙

October is Youth Justice Action Month (YJAM). 💙

YJAM is a month-long effort to raise awareness about the challenges young people can face within the justice system and to encourage communities to listen to youth, elevate their voices, and support fair, developmentally appropriate approaches.

In communities, that can look like creating spaces for young people to share their experiences, supporting families, connecting youth with resources, and advocating for systems centered on healing and opportunity.

At CASA Nashville, our advocates help ensure children and youth in foster care have a consistent voice in court and that their needs and best interests remain at the center.

Youth voice matters, and every young person deserves to be heard.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. 💜

Domestic violence affects people in every community, and its impact can extend far beyond the person experiencing abuse. Children who experience or witness violence can also be deeply affected and deserve safety, stability, and support.

In 2024, 60,635 victims of domestic violence were reported to Tennessee law enforcement.

This month, we stand with survivors, raise awareness, and remind our community that support is available. No one should have to face abuse alone. 💜
