🚨 September is National Preparedness Month! 🚨

Emergencies can happen at any time — severe weather, power outages, fires, or other unexpected events. Being prepared before an emergency can make a big difference.

Take a few minutes this month to make sure your household is ready:

âś… Build or update your emergency supply kit
âś… Keep water, nonperishable food, medications, flashlights, and batteries on hand
âś… Make a family communication and evacuation plan
✅ Know how you’ll receive emergency alerts
âś… Check your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms
âś… Make sure everyone in your home knows where to go and what to do during an emergency

Preparedness doesn’t have to happen all at once. Start with one step today and build from there.

Please join us in congratulating Lee Coppedge on his promotion to Assistant Fire Chief with the Nashville Fire Department!

Chief Coppedge is a Nashville native and has spent his entire career in the fire service with NFD. Since joining the department in 2008, Lee has worked his way through the ranks from Firefighter to Lieutenant/Engineer, Battalion Chief, and now Assistant Fire Chief.

Throughout his career, Lee has been involved in department operations, training, personnel development, and many projects that have helped move our department forward. Most recently, he served as Battalion Chief of B Shift.

In his new role, Lee will assist Fire Chief Chris Joyner with the day-to-day management of our two fire stations and approximately 40 career and volunteer personnel.

Lee is married to his wife, Amanda, and they have two sons, Justin and Brayden. We appreciate the support his family has given him throughout his career and the many hours that come with serving our community.

We are proud to see Lee take this next step in his career and look forward to his service in this new role.

A special thank you to Atlantic Emergency Solutions for honoring the life and legacy of Nash County EMS Director Dale Griffin at the South Atlantic Fire Rescue Expo this week.

This beautiful tribute is a fitting recognition of Dale’s 38 years of dedicated service to Nash County and the countless lives he impacted as a paramedic, mentor, and leader.

Thank you, Atlantic Emergency Solutions, for taking the time to remember and honor a man who gave so much to the fire and EMS community. Dale’s legacy will not be forgotten.

The Nashville Fire Department joins Mayor Brenda Brown and our entire community in mourning the passing of Council Member Xavien Harrison.

Council Member Harrison was a dedicated public servant, community leader, and advocate who made a lasting impact on Nashville and the lives of those he served.

We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew him. We are grateful for his service, leadership, and dedication to our community. His legacy will not be forgotten.

This week members participated in EMT Continuing Education training focused on traumatic injuries and motor vehicle accident stabilization techniques. Crews reviewed patient care considerations during traumatic incidents while also gaining hands-on experience with vehicle stabilization operations involving overturned vehicles.

Training included the use of stabilization struts, cribbing, chains, and securing techniques to help create a safe work environment for both patients and emergency personnel during extrication operations. These types of realistic scenarios help prepare our members to operate efficiently and safely when responding to serious motor vehicle collisions in our community.

Great job to everyone involved in this week’s training and continuing to sharpen their skills through hands-on education and teamwork.

Today, Chief Edwards and Chief Coppedge joined several fire service leaders from across North Carolina at the North Carolina State Firefighters’ Association Legislative Day in Raleigh. The day focused on meeting with state representatives and discussing important issues affecting the fire service and the communities we serve.

We would like to sincerely thank Representative Allen Chesser and Senator Lisa Stone Barnes for taking the time to meet with us today. Their continued support of Nash County, the Nashville Fire Department, and the fire service across North Carolina is greatly appreciated.

It is always important for the fire service to have a voice at the table and continue building strong relationships with those who support public safety in our communities. Thank you NC State Firefighters' Association for making today possible!

Respond to fire, EMS, rescue, and hazardous materials incidents
Operate fire apparatus and critical emergency equipment
Perform firefighting, technical rescue, and EMS duties
Participate in training, inspections, and station operations
Help maintain equipment, apparatus, and facilities

đź’° Pay Range:
$47,500 – $71,250 annually

NC Firefighter I & II
