For Tennessee National Guard Soldiers and Airmen supporting the Memphis Safe Task Force, every day is an opportunity to serve alongside the members of the community we care about so deeply.

As of this morning, law enforcement has made 12,195 arrests, confiscated 2,074 illegal fi****ms, and located 186 missing children. Crime is down 55 percent in Shelby County, with the lowest monthly crime totals in over 25 years.

Our Soldiers continue to work with local law enforcement partners to provide a safe environment for all who call Memphis home.

We join our state and nation in mourning a true Tennessee icon. Her legacy will live on in the mountains and communities she loved so deeply, and in the countless lives she touched around the world.

Last week, soldiers from the 1-230th Aviation Regiment conducted multi-phase medical training with local emergency response partners in Blount County. Joint exercises like this one are why partnerships matter. Strengthening communication and building trust will ensure our teams are ready to respond quickly when Tennesseans need us most.

Today, we celebrated the 252nd birthday of the Tennessee National Guard with a history-themed game show hosted by singer, songwriter, and Y’all 106.7 radio personality Karissa Ella.

In the first round, Soldiers and Airmen tested their knowledge of Tennessee National Guard history, followed by a second round focused on Gary Sinise—whose foundation generously provided lunch for everyone in attendance.

Winners walked away with gift cards, and the celebration concluded with a traditional cake-cutting ceremony. Our oldest and youngest National Guardsmen in attendance joined Colonel Brandon Evans, Chief of Staff for the Tennessee Air National Guard, to cut the cake using a traditional saber.

The Tennessee National Guard officially dates back to August 17, 1774.

Recently, Soldiers with the 278th Cavalry Regiment (MBCT) conducted Family of Weapon Sights - Individual (FWS-I) training. FWS-I is a lightweight, rugged, thermal weapon sight designed to be used in both stand-alone and clip-on modes.

The 278th is in the process of reorganizing into a Mobile Brigade Combat Team, integrating new and evolving technologies and systems such as the Infantry Squad Vehicle, Unmanned Aerial Systems, extended-range precision weapons, and Electronic Warfare systems.

Proud of Spc. Huisman, a medic currently serving on the Memphis Safe Task Force, for his lifesaving actions alongside Tennessee State Trooper Tremmel following a shooting on I-240 on June 1. Their training, teamwork, and quick response helped save a man’s life, and the victim is expected to make a full recovery.
