More than 30 North Nashville residents and community partners came together for honest conversations about roadway safety, trauma, and how we can work together to make our streets safer at NDOT's first Neighborhood Safety Day in April. From outdoor discussions on neighborhood traffic concerns to meaningful conversations led by Metro Public Health clinicians, the day created space for residents to be heard and supported.

Thank you to our partners at Neighbor 2 Neighbor, Metro Public Health, the Mayor’s Office, hubNashville, Roscoe's Bar-B-Que and the Hartman Regional Community Center team for helping bring this event to life. Join us at our next Neighborhood Safety Day on June 20 at Coleman Regional Community Center!

Meet our summer interns! Deenah Annam just completed her first year of grad school at University of Illinois Urbana- Champaign. I just got done with my first year of grad school. She is pursuing her Master's in Urban Planning with a concentration in Transportation Planning and Economic Development.

Q: Why did you decide to spend your summer with us and what are you most excited to learn or work on during your internship??
A: As someone who does not drive as much I've always been on the receiving end of transit. I now want to understand how it all happens and what makes a bus come when it has to come! ( P.s. I also wanted a very legitimate excuse to go see Taylor Swifts House!)

Q: Favorite place in Nashville?
A: I haven't explored Nashville as much as I would have wanted to, but I love Printers Alley, I do not have a reason other than how trippy it looks at night.

Q: Favorite way to get around the city?
A: I had been on a bike tour once and it got me into renting out Bcycles and going around the city! I'm not sure if it's the most practical way but it is my favorite way.

Q: Future goals or dream career?
A: I want to work as a transportation strategist. Someone who sees transit as a tool to increase opportunity, diversity, and economic activity rather than just being able to successfully move people.

We’re so excited to have Deenah on our team over the next few weeks!
