Rectangular Rapid‑Flashing Beacons (RRFBs) help pedestrians cross safely by alerting drivers with bright, rapid‑flashing lights. When pedestrians activate the beacon, drivers must slow down and come to a complete stop while the pedestrian crosses the intersection. RRFBs support NDOT’s Vision Zero commitment by making crosswalks more visible and reducing crash risks on busy roads.

Pedestrians and drivers will encounter RRFBs throughout Nashville & Davidson County:
⚠️ 140 46th Avenue North
🚸 2529 Hobbs Road
⚠️ 16th Avenue North and Buchanan Street
🚸 322 Cleveland Avenue
⚠️ 334 Ewing Drive
🚸 28th Avenue North and Meharry Blvd
⚠️ and many more.

🚦 Did you know Metro Nashville Public Schools adopted Roadway Safety Standards into the health curriculum?!

At the 2026 MNPS Health, Wellness & Physical Education District-wide In-service, we celebrated a major milestone with MNPS: roadway safety is officially part of the K–12 health curriculum through Tennessee’s new Road Safety Standards!

The Tennessee Highway Safety Office and Tennessee Tech University’s iCube joined us to present these new statewide standards. Together, our team brought hands-on traffic safety education directly into classrooms to support educators with age‑appropriate, wellness‑aligned resources.

This effort builds on NDOT’s Vision Zero Safe Routes to School programming, which provides safer walking and biking routes, engaging safety activities, walk audits, and community partnerships designed to protect every student traveling to and from school.
