The Tennessee Historical Commission and Tennessee Wars Commission are pleased to announce that applications for the Tennessee Wars Commission Grant Fund (WCGF) will open on August 31, 2026!

The WCGF provides financial support to coordinate planning, preservation, protection, promotion, and interpretation of structures, buildings, sites, and battlefields related to Tennessee’s military heritage. Example projects include, but are not limited to, archaeological surveys and excavations, cemetery preservation, contraband camp preservation and interpretation, graphic displays and interpretative panels, historic markers, and living history and educational programs.

We ain't afraid of no ghosts! Join us on October 2nd for a spooktacular evening of science and cinema!

Presented by Borderland Tees: As part of the Historic House Museums of Knoxville's Movies at the Museums series, we're excited to host a FREE screening of Ghostbusters (1984). Before the movie, enjoy a talk from Quinn Argall, Collections & Exhibits Director at the American Museum of Science and Energy, as he explores the science behind ghosts and hauntings.

Bring a few blankets and chairs, friends and family, and maybe a few proton packs! Gates open ; movie starts at dusk.

The Tennessee Historical Commission, State Historic Preservation Office is pleased to announce the Federal Historic Preservation Fund Grants awarded for 2026. This year 28 matching grants were awarded, totaling over $1.1 million.

The Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP) is advancing a massive rewrite to the regulations implementing Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. The proposed new regulations limit state and local government, tribal, and public involvement, and they greatly reduce the types of resources and effects that can be considered during review. Tennessee is a state with a wealth of historic sites that contribute directly to our state identity, generate tourism, and provide citizens with immense state and local pride. The proposed changes could greatly impact our state’s cultural resources. Tennesseans deserve a say in what happens to our historic sites.

What you can do:
1. Write to your Governor to share how these changes impact historic properties in your location.
2. Write to your members of Congress to share how these changes impact historic properties in your location.
3. Be prepared to send comments when the comment period opens after ACHP publishes a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking in the Federal Register. We will post with updates on this to let you know when to submit comments.
4. Stay informed on the latest developments by following us and other preservation organizations (see our website for links to other organizations and to ACHP).

The Tennessee Historical Commission and Tennessee Wars Commission are pleased to announce that applications for the Civil War Sites Preservation Fund will open on August 10, 2026!

The Civil War Sites Preservation Fund, begun in 2013, is a key source for matching funds for the acquisition and preservation of properties associated with the 38 most significant Civil War sites in Tennessee. Last year the Commission awarded $2,602,273.82 and helped to preserve approximately 22.387 acres of battlefield properties. $2.3 million in funding will be available from the CWSPF this year.

We were honored to receive a Certificate of Merit award from the Tennessee Historic Commission for our preservation work on the “Honeymoon Cottage” at Sgt Alvin C. York State Historic Park. We also have a newly installed interpretive panel that details the history of the house. Come by and see it for yourself!
