Tennessee Woman Suffrage Monument Tennessee Woman Suffrage Monument was gifted to the City of Nashville by the nine women who raised the money and commissioned sculptor Alan Lequire.

Dedicated August 18, 2020 at permanent location, 2525 West End Avenue, Nashville TN. Nine women from across Tennessee raised the funding needed to commission sculptor Alan LeQuire, to create a fitting memorial to the Tennessee suffragists who helped assure the state's ratification of the 19th Amendment on August 18, 1920. Tennessee was the 36th and final state required to ratify the 19th Amendment

to the U.S. Constitution granting all American women the right to vote in all elections. Five women were chosen to be honored; 4 from Tennessee, including Anne Dallas Dudley of Nashville, Sue Shelton White of Jackson, Frankie Pierce of Nashville and Abby Milton Crawford of Chattanooga. Carrie Chapman Catt, not a Tennessean, came to Tennessee to plan one final battle for the effort that was begun in 1848 when Elizabeth Cady Staton held the first women's rights convention in Seneca Falls, NY and the 50 years+ that Susan B. Anthony spent her life working to win suffrage. The women gifted the beautiful monument to the City of Nashville to be placed in Centennial Park because the suffragists held rallies there in their efforts to help assure the ratification.

We are excited about the America250 event at Centennial Park on July 4th. We will "decorate" the ladies on the Tennessee Woman Suffrage Monument. Beginning at noon, there will be a reading of the Declaration of Independence and the Declaration of Sentiments by Elizabeth Cady Stanton for the first Womens Rights Convention in 1848 in Seneca Falls, NY, as well as Dr. Lea Williams will read one of Frederick Douglass' speeches that praises the suffragists who fought for women's right. Please come out and see the ladies in their America250 regalia and enjoy the readings that will be taking place at the Band Shell nearby.
