☀️🔥 HEAT ADVISORY: STAY SAFE THIS WEEK, BROWN COUNTY! 🔥☀️
With temperatures climbing and heat index values expected to make it feel even hotter, the members of Brown County Volunteer Fire Department encourage everyone to take a few extra precautions while enjoying summer activities.
Whether you're headed to the fair, spending time on the lake, mowing the yard, or enjoying time outdoors, heat-related illnesses can happen quickly.
💧 Stay Hydrated
✅ Drink plenty of water throughout the day—even if you don't feel thirsty.
✅ Avoid excessive alcohol and caffeine, which can contribute to dehydration.
✅ Take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning.
🎡 At the Fair or Community Events
✅ Wear light-colored, loose-fitting clothing.
✅ Apply sunscreen regularly.
✅ Seek shade whenever possible.
✅ Keep an eye on children, older adults, and anyone with medical conditions who may be more sensitive to the heat.
🌊 Water Safety
✅ Never swim alone.
✅ Wear a life jacket when boating, kayaking, or paddleboarding.
✅ Designate a responsible adult to actively supervise children around water—distractions happen fast.
✅ Remember that alcohol and water activities do not mix.
🌱 Yard Work & Outdoor Projects
✅ Try to work during the cooler morning or evening hours.
✅ Take frequent breaks and don't push through dizziness, fatigue, or nausea.
✅ Wear sunscreen, a hat, and lightweight clothing.
✅ Know the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
🚗 Don't Forget About Vehicles
❌ Never leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle, even for a few minutes. Interior temperatures can become deadly in a very short time.
🚨 Know the Warning Signs

* Heavy sweating
* Dizziness

📞 If someone shows signs of heat stroke, call 911 immediately and move them to a cooler location while waiting for help.

Stay cool, stay hydrated, and have a safe week
