🚧 Stay alert for road work ahead 🚧

On or after Wednesday, April 1, crews will begin a small structure replacement project on S.R. 46 between Lower Schooner Road and Shipley Hollow Road in Brown County. Work is expected to be complete at this location in late April, weather permitting. A prescribed fire is planned for Wednesday, March 25th, 2026, near Ogle Lake. For the safety of the public and the firefighters, Ogle Lake Road, the lake's parking lot, and the north section of Trail 7 will be closed during fire operations. The area will reopen once the prescribed burn is complete. Please do not approach the burn area from any connecting trail and do not bypass closed signs.

Smoke may be visible in the park during and after the fire. Please drive with caution and turn on your headlights if you encounter smoke.

If you have questions about the burn, please call or email the naturalist at the nature center.

🚧 Traffic Alert: SR 46 Construction Project (Bloomington to Nashville) 🚧

Heads up, Brown County and surrounding areas — construction is scheduled to begin on or after April 1, 2026 along State Road 46 between Bloomington and Nashville.

This project, led by the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT), includes:

📍 Work Locations:

SR 46 over Stephens Creek (Monroe County) – 3.0 miles east of SR 446

SR 46 over tributary to North Fork Salt Creek – 5.65 miles east of SR 446 (Monroe County)

SR 46 over tributary to North Fork Salt Creek – 6.9 miles east of SR 446 (Brown County)

SR 46 over tributary to Lower Schooner Creek – 10.86 miles east of SR 446 (Brown County)

SR 46 over tributary to Upper Schooner Creek – 11.59 miles east of SR 446 (Brown County)

The Indiana Department of Transportation has scheduled repairs to address sunken pavement in the northbound wheel path at the intersection of Van Buren St. & Mound St.

📅 Date: Friday, March 20, 2026
⏰ Time: 8:30 AM – 12:00 PM
🚫 Traffic Impact: The intersection will be fully closed to through traffic during this time.

➡️ Important Notes:
• Access to Grandwood Suites will remain open
• Access to the BC Community Foundation driveway will also remain open
• Impacted local businesses have been notified

Charge your phones, gather your flashlights or candles, and if you have an old fashioned portable radio keep that handy too.

A line of severe thunderstorms is expected to move through central Indiana this evening after 7 PM before ending by 2 AM. The primary threat will be damaging wind gusts from 60 to over 70 MPH, but a few tornadoes will be possible as well.

From WTHR:

⚠️The chance for up to 80 MPH winds is growing for Indiana for Sunday night. It will be windier than Friday.

A cold front knocking Indiana down from 70s to 20s in a few hours will bring an intense line of storms.

We will already have nearly 50 MPH winds on Sunday. These storms won't have to add much wind to create a widespread severe threat.

In fact this past Friday if we just had some rain showers, the NWS would have issued severe thunderstorms all over the state.

SUNDAY NIGHT THREATS (March 15-16)
These storms will be nasty, likely arriving in Indiana after 7PM EDT. Storms will quickly sweep across the state. Damaging winds are likely along the leading edge.

The highest winds are likely near and south of I-70.

An isolated, rain-wrapped tornado is possible. Gustnados are possible (brief wind twirling around) Storm winds up to 80 MPH are already at EF-0 strength.

Please stay weather aware for Sunday late evening and night.
