Brown County Humane Society

Brown County Humane Society BCHS is a nonprofit animal shelter serving the homeless dogs and cats of Brown County, Indiana.
(283)

We also offer resources to help residents keep pets in their homes including low-cost spay/neuter. BCHS strives for a community where all animals are valued and treated with respect. All animals that come to the shelter are re-homed, regardless of how long it takes and no animals are euthanized due to lack of space or funds. We hold the Brown County Animal Control contract, but we are not a govern

ment agency and receive no funds from any national animal welfare organizations. Our community outreach program has reduced the number of animals coming into the shelter by 49% and the BCHS has been nationally recognized as a successful rural shelter with an outstanding save rate of 99%, compared to a national average of 60%.

Izzy is a 13 year old girl who happily greets you at the door with a soft meow, then settles in close. When she's not seeking affection, she's happy lounging in her bed or perched on her cat tree, especially if there's a window to watch the world go by. A generous sponsor has already covered her adoption fee, so all Izzy needs now is her favorite people to come home to.

You'll usually find Niko curled up in his favorite bed...he's not one to greet you first, so you'll need to come to him and earn his trust with some good chin and cheek scratches. Once he warms up, he'll stretch out, snuggle in, and happily soak up all the attention you'll give him, even showing off a playful side with rope toys. Niko would thrive in a calm, quiet home where he has the time and space to truly blossom.

SPOT Program Helps With Pet Food

With food prices continuing to rise, many people are having to make tough choices when it comes to their pets. If you are having difficulty affording food for your dogs/cats, we can help.

SPOT (Serving Pets Outreach Team) provides temporary pet food assistance to residents of Brown County. Food can be delivered to you by the SPOT team (call SPOT at 812-703-0797 to get on the list), or you can pick it up at these local food pantries:

Mothers Cupboard - First Monday of the month
Pentecostal Church - First Thursday of the month
St. David’s Church - First Thursday of the month

SPOT wants to help keep pets in the homes where they are already loved.

If you’d like to help your neighbors, you can drop food off at the shelter, or purchasing it online to be delivered.

Celeste is a beautiful 1 year old cat who is very curious about the world around her. She's nosey in the best way, always wanting to see what's going on outside of the window, what kind of snacks you might have, and the comings and goings of the household.

ASMR with Luka 🤭 this sweet old man is full of interesting noises and a playful personality that keeps things interesting! Luka is having a hard time adjusting to shelter life and would be most appreciative to find a new home where he can unwind and be his best self.
