Brown County Humane Society

Brown County Humane Society BCHS is a nonprofit animal shelter serving the homeless dogs and cats of Brown County, Indiana.
(286)

We also offer resources to help residents keep pets in their homes including low-cost spay/neuter. BCHS strives for a community where all animals are valued and treated with respect. All animals that come to the shelter are re-homed, regardless of how long it takes and no animals are euthanized due to lack of space or funds. We hold the Brown County Animal Control contract, but we are not a govern

ment agency and receive no funds from any national animal welfare organizations. Our community outreach program has reduced the number of animals coming into the shelter by 49% and the BCHS has been nationally recognized as a successful rural shelter with an outstanding save rate of 99%, compared to a national average of 60%.

Vinnie is regretting all of his life choices after a romp in the mud puddles got him a one way ticket to the bath tub. This sweet senior boy loves to play, and he had excellent manners during his clean-up. Vinnie is currently in a foster placement, but he would love to have a yard (and bath) of his own for all of his adventures!

Garfield is a big boy who truly lives up to his name. His greatest passions in life are eating and napping. He doesn’t demand attention like others, he just asks that there’s always an open spot on the couch with his name on it.

Miss Kitty is an older girl who knows exactly what she wants. At 12 years old, Miss Kitty isn’t much for playing games. She might paw at a toy or make some one-handed biscuits, but she knows that life is best lived relaxing in a cozy bed. She’ll tolerate pets, but she really just wants to be adored and waited on by her servants.
