The more people get together and talk about sustainability in our city, the better!

Thank you to everyone who made it to our May Sustainability Roundtable, hosted by the Nashville Predators at Bridgestone Arena and sponsored by Coca-Cola Consolidated.

With an impressive green team with representation across departments and leadership levels, we appreciated the behind-the-scenes tour and were impressed by their hefty efforts to be more sustainable while managing numerous event types, a round-the-clock schedule, and multiple sites/venues across Davidson Co and beyond.

From strategically-timed energy reduction, to thoughtful water usage, to electric Zamboni machines, to fulfilling headlining artists' specifications around sustainability efforts, they shared a practical and scalable sustainability journey with us all.

🎾 Tennis Balls: Recycled tennis balls can be used as horse arena footing, helping create softer and safer riding surfaces. New and used tennis balls are accepted during the event!

🫙 Plastic Bottle & Jar Lids: Don’t toss those caps! These can be used for benches, decking, playground equipment, and other durable construction materials.

Nashville's Planning Department has launched the Ecological Conservation Strategy (ECS) to create a countywide plan to understand the effects of our growing city on the landscape. It will explore opportunities to protect the environment while still supporting growth.

Have you seen bioretention basins like this around Nashville? These Stormwater Control Measures (SCMs) use plants to absorb excess water and filter pollutants while safely draining water away from buildings. General Services has been performing preventative maintenance on the department's SCMs to make sure that they are functioning properly and looking good! 🌱

Greater Nashville Regional Council will host two virtual public meetings on Tuesday, May 19 (11:30am and 5:30pm) to provide an overview of the region’s ongoing Climate Pollution Reduction Grant planning efforts and gather public input on strategies to improve air quality across Middle Tennessee. You can also take a survey to share your views and preferences on how our region deals with air quality.
