We *KNOW* people are excited for this one! Full resurfacing on I-24 in Rutherford County from the Davidson County line to Baker Road is complete! After winter weather caused pavement deterioration earlier this year, crews made emergency repairs and then returned for our full resurfacing project this summer. There could be some lane closure over the next few weeks, as ramp repairs continue.

We’re about halfway through the Walton Ferry Road/Old Shackle Island Road widening project!

Crews are currently working on traffic signal foundations, storm drainage, and roadway construction. Work has moved to the west side of Walton Ferry Road, now that paving is complete on the east side and traffic has been shifted. Paving on the east side of Old Shackle Island Road is anticipated to be complete in October, where traffic will then be shifted to the new east side lane to begin work on the west side.

One project. Two counties. Two different stages of construction. This is a look at work being done on the SR 63 widening project. In Campbell County, final paving is underway on the stretch from near Frontier Road/Woodson Lane to the Claiborne County line, and substantial completion is expected soon. Over in Claiborne County, from the Campbell County line to Hall Lane, crews are working on grading the additional lanes. The entire project is expected to be complete Fall 2026.

The I-40 at SR 104 (Exit 101) interchange improvement project is getting started, but it’s part of a bigger investment in West Tennessee. A general fund transfer approved by the Tennessee General Assembly for FY 2021–22 provided additional funding for rural interchange improvements to encourage economic development. Using those funds, TDOT’s Region 4 identified multiple I-40 interchanges in West Tennessee for improvements including I-40 at SR 1/US 70 (Exit 66) and I-40 at SR 69 (Exit 126).

The newest project, at Exit 101 in Henderson County, will extend the on- and off-ramps, add lighting and widen SR 104.

We heard everyone’s dropping their fall menus… so how about a look at some major bridge replacement getting underway in Middle Tennessee this fall?

We’re working on SR 6 bridges in *multiple* locations.
E. Main St. Bridge (SR 6) in Franklin is due for replacement. The original bridge was first built in *1929.* Work starts this fall and while drivers will have one lane in each direction for travel, those lanes will be tighter than usual. The replacement is expected to be complete December 2028.

In Sumner County we’ll be replacing both the SR 6 bridges - the East and West Fork Station Camp Creek Bridges. Center lane closures will happen first, followed by major closures in 2027. The replacement is expected to be complete in 2029.

And finally, substructure work is getting underway on the I-40 at 8th Avenue bridge replacements. The biggest travel impacts will happen next year. The replacements are expected to be complete Summer 2028.

TDOT is deeply saddened by the passing of icon, philanthropist, and beloved Tennessean Dolly Parton.

Dolly’s influence on Tennessee is immeasurable. Her generosity, compassion, and steadfast love for our state have touched countless lives. We will always remember the comfort and hope she brought to Tennesseans in moments of tragedy—from helping families rebuild after the 2016 Great Smoky Mountains wildfires to lifting spirits and offering support following the devastation of Hurricane Helene in 2024.

Her heart for people, her boundless kindness, and her pride in calling Tennessee home created a legacy that will endure for generations. We are profoundly grateful for all she gave to our communities and our state. Her bright, generous spirit will forever shine and live on in the lives she changed and the love she shared.

The new SR 68 bridges in Ducktown are OPEN — and there’s even better news: the entire project is expected to finish several months early!

The replacement bridges are higher than the original bridges, adding clearance for drivers on US 64. While traffic is now using the new bridges, crews are wrapping up final items including pavement marking and bridge texture coating. The full Polk County project was originally expected to finish in December 2026. It’s now expected to wrap up several months ahead of schedule.

After a 50-day closure, the excavation of nearly 1,000 dump truck loads of dirt and rock, and the installation of a 104-foot double-barrel box culvert, the Hurricane Branch Culvert Replacement in Jackson County is complete!

You may remember, the roadway and drainage system was damaged during a rain event in February of 2025. This replacement not only improves the drainage structure, but also added environmental stabilization measures to prevent erosion. The road reopened in April and the final punch list items have been completed.
