As we celebrate Independence Day, the Castleton–Maple Grove–Nashville Fire Department would like to remind everyone to celebrate safely.

Fireworks can cause serious injuries, grass fires, and property damage in just seconds. Please keep these safety tips in mind:

• Follow all local and state laws regarding fireworks.
• Keep fireworks away from homes, vehicles, dry grass, fields, and wooded areas.
• Have a hose, bucket of water, or fire extinguisher nearby.
• Never allow young children to handle fireworks.
• Never relight a firework that does not go off. Wait several minutes, then soak it with water before disposing of it.
• Dispose of used fireworks in a metal container after they have been completely soaked.
• Be respectful of neighbors, pets, veterans, and anyone sensitive to loud noises.

If a fire starts or someone is injured, call 911 immediately.

US National Weather Service Grand Rapids Michigan.

Expect highs in the 90s and heat indexes of 100-105 for many, possibly as high as 110 Tuesday-Thursday. Conditions may be a bit cooler along the Lake Michigan shore, especially from Muskegon and north. Several days of extreme heat will lead to a higher risk for heat illness and warm overnight temperatures will provide little relief, especially for those without cooling or working outdoors. Stay hydrated, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors

Happy Father's Day

Today, the Castleton–Maple Grove–Nashville Fire Department proudly honors the fathers, grandfathers, stepfathers, and father figures who serve as the backbone of our families, our communities, and our nation.

Like firefighters, fathers answer the call every day—not for recognition, but because protecting, providing, teaching, and loving their families is what they do. They lead with courage, serve with humility, and stand ready when their loved ones need them most.

We recognize the dads who wear a uniform, work long hours, miss holidays, and make sacrifices so others can be safe. We also honor every father whose dedication, hard work, and example help shape the next generation.

On this Father's Day, we thank the men who taught us the value of service, integrity, responsibility, and love of country.
