City of Nassau Bay EMS

City of Nassau Bay EMS Nassau Bay EMS is a critical public safety agency that delivers pre-hospital emergency medicine. The Nassau Bay Emergency Medical Service (EMS) was a division of the Fire Department in the early 1970s.
(3)

In 2003, Nassau Bay EMS was transferred from a volunteer service to a fully-paid EMS. Our staff consists of EMS Administrator, Chief, supervisors, paramedics, and EMTs. All paramedic staff personnel are required to maintain Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Trauma Life Support (BTLS) provider certifications. Most staff members also maintain CPR-Instructor certification. One of our real strengths as an EMS organization has been our progressive standing orders. In 2014, Sandeep Duggal, M.D. became the current medical director for the Nassau Bay EMS.

TROPICAL STORM BETA poses a heavy rain threat to southeast Texas. Beta's exact path is uncertain, but coastal flooding from storm surge and inland flooding from heavy rain is looking increasingly likely. The strongest winds should hold off from making it to our coast until Tuesday or Wednesday but we'll get the rain and coastal flooding as early as Sunday, and winds will be noticeably gustier as well, especially along our coastal communities.

UPDATE - August 31, 2020
The defendant, Lisa Pait, had a probable cause hearing in the 208th District Court yesterday evening. The Court found that probable cause for further detention DID NOT EXIST and ordered the release of Pait without charges. The Court did not give any further explanation. At this time the District Attorney’s Office has the opportunity to review the case to determine if additional evidence exists to refile a charge.

SHOOTING INVESTIGATION
On August 29, 2020, at about 11:00 pm, Nassau Bay PD received a call of a shooting in the 1400 block of Saxony Lane. The caller reported that a neighbor had knocked on her door saying she had shot her son.
Officers arrived and found the victim, a 27-year-old male, with a gunshot wound to the right shoulder. Officers applied pressure to the wound until Nassau Bay EMS arrived and transported the victim to HCA Clear Lake Hospital. The male was conscious and talking to officers. He stated that his mother had shot him. The injuries did not appear to be life threatening.
49-year-old Lisa Pait was detained at the scene for questioning. Officers located and recovered a handgun at the scene.
Witnesses at the scene were interviewed and the investigation determined the victim had been in a fight with his girlfriend. Pait intervened and separated the two. Pait then went to a bedroom and retrieved the handgun. When the victim came into the bedroom, Pait shot him in the shoulder.
Harris County District Attorney’s Office authorized the filing of a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon against Pait. Pait was arrested and booked into jail, pending transfer to Harris County Jail later today.

City of Nassau Bay Mayor Mark Denman has issued a voluntary evacuation recommendation for Nassau Bay’s most vulnerable residents including the disabled and those with medical needs.

The latest update from the National Weather Service predicts Tropical Storm Laura will develop into a Category 2 hurricane and track to the upper Texas Coast or southwest Louisiana, making landfall Wednesday night. There is still some uncertainty regarding the track and strength of this storm, and residents should be aware changes could occur quickly. Though a direct hit is not in our forecast, we could experience some high winds, rain, and storm surge. Residents can expect power outages and delays in emergency response during and after the storm.

Whether you evacuate or not, please be sure to secure all loose items outside your home including patio furniture, potted plants, etc.

If you haven’t signed up for Nassau Bay Alerts, please do so now. The link to register is on the Nassau Bay website’s home page, or you can email your address and contact information to [email protected]. This is the primary way Nassau Bay will communicate with residents during emergencies.

🔺️Tropical Storm Hanna🔺️

This storm continues to slowly strengthen, and has now become Tropical Storm Hanna. As it continues to move towards the Texas coast. The storm will continue moving to the west-northwest through Friday, before taking on a more westerly motion for a landfall expected along the South Texas
coastline on Saturday.

Locally, this should make for a trend towards less direct wind impact for much of southeast Texas. The strongest winds should remain over the Gulf waters off of Matagorda Bay, though some gusty winds may push onshore in the Matagorda Bay area. However, the primary threats of heavy rains and elevated seas and tides remain. Widespread rains should be fairly manageable for most of the area, but there is continued potential for rainfall from an outer band, which can quickly create the potential for flash flooding.

Southeast Texas will be on the wetter "dirty" side of the storm, meaning we will get the moist tropical flow that brings the heaviest rains and roughest seas. We still expect 3-5" will be common south of I-10 with some spots picking up over 6". North of I-10 we expect 1-3" of rain. If any persistent heavy "feeder" bands of rain set up over southeast Texas, then we could see significantly higher accumulations.

Additionally, at the Gulf Coast, particularly vulnerable locations
along the coast - for example, Highway 87 on the Bolivar Peninsula - may
see some minor flooding issues from elevated tides and seas.
