Cane River Waterway Commission Unveils New Mural Celebrating Cane River
NATCHEZ, La. — The Cane River Waterway Commission unveiled a new mural celebrating the history, beauty, and character of Cane River during its regularly scheduled public meeting Tuesday, Aug. 18.
Local artist 'Halie Errington' created the mural for the Commission’s office, bringing together familiar scenes and landmarks that reflect the communities, history, and landscape found along Cane River.
“Having grown up on Cane River, I have so many memories of fishing, swimming, and simply spending time on the river,” Errington said. “It’s a place I’ve always loved and appreciated for its beauty, history, and character. I’m honored to have the opportunity to bring a little piece of that Cane River spirit to life through this mural for the Cane River Waterway Commission.”
Members of the Commission joined Errington for a photo in front of the completed mural following its presentation.
The Aug. 18 meeting also included the introduction of new board member Karson Eversull, along with updates and discussion regarding ongoing Commission projects and operations, including the pump project, buoys and no-wake zones, spraying, office signage and security, and other matters concerning the management of Cane River.
The mural will remain on display at the Cane River Waterway Commission office at 1483 Hwy. 119 in Natchez and serves as a colorful representation of the waterway the Commission works to manage, maintain, and preserve.
