Good Morning Natchez! Just providing an update on the winter weather. This morning all city and county emergency personnel are working together to get us safely through these icy conditions.
First and easiest precaution- Please stay off roads and streets! Currently we have ice forming all over. The flyover at 61 North has been closed. Firetower Road is closed. Some trees are beginning to fall and conditions are dangerous. Please leave roadways clear for essential crews and personnel.
Entergy crews are already out working to restore power - 95 outages have been reported so far, mostly in areas downtown and south of downtown including Canal Street. If you have an outage please call 1-800-ENTERGY.
Good news is that the precipitation should be ending within two or three hours. Let's pray accumulation of ice on limbs and power lines will not be as bad as previously expected. Because of freezing temps, however, streets will remain dangerous for some time. Please stay at home.
Please keep a check on elderly neighbors and the sick and shut-in. For individuals needing shelter from the cold, the Adams County Safe Room is open until Tuesday, located at 323 Liberty Road. Pets are welcome as long as they are in carriers or kennels. Pets do not need to be left outside!
Safety in Natchez today is our number one priority. Together we are all going to be just fine! We are โ๏ธโ๏ธ๐บ๐ธ
Thank you Adams County Sheriff Travis Patten for this photo of downtown.
