On Tuesday, the Adams County Sheriff’s Office had the privilege of welcoming students from the Miss-Lou Pre-Law Academy for an inside look at the many careers and responsibilities that make up our criminal justice system.

Throughout their visit, these bright young men and women had the opportunity to tour our facility, learn about detention operations, communications, investigations, emergency management, drone technology, and the day to day responsibilities of law enforcement professionals. They also heard firsthand from dedicated public servants who shared their experiences, challenges, and passion for serving others.

What impressed us most was the curiosity, enthusiasm, and professionalism displayed by these students. They asked thoughtful questions, engaged in meaningful discussions, and demonstrated a genuine interest in understanding how our justice system serves and protects our communities. Looking across this group, it was easy to see future attorneys, judges, law enforcement officers, public servants, and community leaders.

Programs like the Miss-Lou Pre-Law Academy are invaluable because they expose young people to opportunities they may never have considered and help them better understand the importance of public service. By investing in our youth today, we are helping build stronger communities for tomorrow.

The Adams County Sheriff’s Office is honored to support educational programs that inspire, educate, and empower the next generation. We thank the students, instructors, and organizers of the Miss-Lou Pre-Law Academy for spending part of their week with us, and we wish each participant continued success as they pursue their goals and dreams.

The future is bright, and after meeting these young men and women, we have every reason to be optimistic about what lies ahead.

Today, I was reminded once again why I am so proud of the men and women of the Adams County Sheriff’s Office.

On their own time and without being asked, Deputies R. Lewis, K. Younger, G. King and L. Fitzgerald stopped by the Toys for Tots Garage Sale at The Word Church of Natchez to show their support for a great cause. Their willingness to give back to the community they serve speaks volumes about their character and the heart they bring to this profession every day.

Law enforcement is about much more than answering calls and enforcing the law. It is about building relationships, supporting our neighbors, and helping make a difference wherever we can. These deputies demonstrated exactly what community service looks like, and I could not be more proud of them.

I would encourage everyone in our community to stop by and support the Toys for Tots Garage Sale today. You’ll find a variety of items at great prices, and every purchase helps support a wonderful mission that benefits children and families in need.

📍 The Word Church of Natchez

Sheriff Travis Patten is proud to announce that Lieutenant David Nations of the Adams County Sheriff’s Office recently participated in specialized human trafficking training hosted by the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office in conjunction with Operation Liberty Shield.

The training brought together law enforcement professionals from across Mississippi to enhance their understanding of human trafficking investigations and victim recovery efforts. Participants received instruction on recognizing indicators of human trafficking, conducting victim centered investigations, intelligence gathering, evidence collection, and collaborative strategies designed to support victims while holding offenders accountable.

Human trafficking remains one of the most underreported and difficult crimes to detect. Training opportunities such as this provide law enforcement officers with the tools and knowledge necessary to identify victims, investigate criminal activity, and work alongside community partners to combat these crimes effectively.

“Human trafficking is a crime that often hides in plain sight,” said Sheriff Travis Patten. “By investing in advanced training opportunities for our personnel, we are strengthening our ability to recognize the signs of trafficking, protect vulnerable individuals, and pursue those responsible for exploiting others. We are proud of Lieutenant Nations for representing the Adams County Sheriff’s Office and for his commitment to continuing professional development.”

Sheriff Patten also expressed appreciation to the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office and all agencies involved in providing this important training opportunity.

The Adams County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to ensuring its personnel receive ongoing education and specialized training to better serve and protect the citizens of Adams County.

Today, members of the Adams County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Team, the Natchez Police Department and the Natchez Fire Department had the privilege of spending time with the incredible young people and families at Christian Hope Vacation Bible School.

Law enforcement is about much more than responding to calls and enforcing laws. It is about building relationships, investing in our future, and taking the time to connect with the next generation. Seeing the smiles, laughter, curiosity, and excitement of these children serves as a reminder of why we do what we do each day.

Our deputies enjoyed sharing experiences, answering questions, showing the children some of the equipment we use, and most importantly, letting them know that the men and women of the Adams County Sheriff’s Office care deeply about them and their future.

The children of today are the leaders, teachers, business owners, first responders, and community members of tomorrow. Every positive interaction matters. We are grateful to Christian Hope for allowing us to be part of such a meaningful event and for the opportunity to pour into the lives of these young people.

Thank you to the staff, volunteers, parents, and everyone who made Vacation Bible School a success. May we never underestimate the impact that a little time, encouragement, and kindness can have on a child’s life.

The ACSO Family are committed to building safer communities by building stronger relationships: one child, one family, and one conversation at a time. 💙🚔🙏
