Do you have Yellow Flag Iris (Iris pseudacorus) growing in your garden and ready to remove?

Starting September 1, 2026, until September 12th, 2026, Briarwood Nature Preserve will accept your Yellow Flags and trade you for a native Southern Blue Flag.

Bring us your unwanted plants and we will responsibly dispose of them by burning and send you home with a better native in their place.

Happy 110th birthday to the National Park Service! 🎉🌲

Since 1916, NPS has worked to preserve America’s natural wonders, historic places, and cultural stories for future generations. Here in Natchitoches, that mission is carried forward through Cane River Creole National Historical Park, Cane River National Heritage Area, and the National Center for Preservation Technology and Training.

Today, we celebrate our local NPS colleagues and partners who help preserve and share the stories, places, and cultures that make our region so special!

We’re kicking off National Park Week with an adventure for the whole family!

Join us at Oakland Plantation on Saturday, August 22, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for a scavenger hunt through history. Follow the clues, explore historic buildings, and discover the stories of the people who lived and worked along Cane River.

Complete the hunt, take the Junior Ranger oath, and earn a special Junior Ranger badge!
