FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
START OF CONSTRUCTION WORK ON SECOND STREET AND TOULINE STREET
NATCHITOCHES โ The City of Natchitoches announces that construction work on Second Street, from Church Street to Touline Street, and on Touline Street, from Front Street to Fifth Street, is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, June 17, 2026.
This work consists of removal of the existing deteriorated concrete pavement and construction of a new pavement in these areas. Appurtenant work will consist of the replacement of existing water and sewer lines and storm drain pipes, and the construction of curb ramps that comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
The first phase of work, which is expected to take approximately three weeks to complete, will be located on Second Street from Church Street to Trudeau Street, during which time this section of Second Street will be CLOSED TO ALL TRAFFIC, including on-street parking. During approximately the last seven days of this work phase, the intersection of Second Street at Church Street also will be CLOSED TO ALL TRAFFIC for installation of a new sewer manhole in this intersection and tie-in of the new sewer line to the new manhole.
Upon completion of the Phase 1 work, the next phase of work will be conducted on Second Street from Trudeau Street to Touline Street, followed by work on Touline Street from Second Street to Fourth Street.
During these phases of work and the accompanying street closures, traffic must detour around the work sites via the system of adjacent City streets. It will also be necessary for those who normally park along these streets for access to adjacent buildings to park elsewhere while the work is being completed in each street segment.
Except for short periods while the new water and sewer lines are being tied into the existing utility lines at each end of these street segments, water and sewer service to adjacent businesses, residences, and other buildings will be maintained throughout the duration of the project.
This work is being done under the State Capital Outlay Program, with 75% of the costs being borne by the State. The contractor is Skyplex Trucking, LLC, of Natchitoches, and the contract amount is $2.3 million.
The City of Natchitoches appreciates the publicโs patience as they are inconvenienced by this work, and motorists are urged to obey all traffic control devices when traveling in these areas.
