It is with profound sadness that we announce the active duty death of Firefighter Michael Mejia.

Firefighter Mejia passed away following complications from a severe illness. His loss is deeply felt throughout our department and the greater fire service community.

Mike began his fire service career with the Del Mar Fire Department in 1993 before joining the National City Fire Department in 2000, where he proudly served as a Firefighter for the past 26 years.

Mike is survived by his wife and two daughters. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Mejia family during this incredibly difficult time.

We respectfully ask that the privacy of the Mejia family be honored as they grieve and navigate the days ahead.

Memorial service information will be shared as it becomes available.
