UConn Health Waterbury Hospital has launched a new Prehospital Blood Program — a life-saving initiative that allows emergency medical responders to give blood transfusions to critically injured patients before they even reach the hospital. As part of the program, two emergency response vehicles operated by Naugatuck Ambulance and American Medical Response (AMR) in Waterbury will now carry units of human blood, ready to be administered at the scene of an emergency throughout the greater Waterbury region.
This program represents a major step forward in emergency trauma response, giving first responders the tools they need to save more lives right at the scene. Find out how the program will help save lives from the first responders on the field.
