A heartfelt thank you to The Pentecostals of Naugatuck for their generous donation of hygiene bags to support our unsheltered neighbors throughout the Greater Waterbury and Naugatuck areas.

These bags contain essential items that many of us use every day but can be difficult to access when experiencing homelessness. Through this thoughtful donation, countless individuals will receive basic necessities that help promote health, dignity, and comfort while navigating difficult circumstances.

We cannot say enough good things about Captain Stokes. His support has helped foster a meaningful relationship between the unsheltered population and the Waterbury Police Department. His unwavering commitment to not only showing up, but truly engaging, listening, and leading with empathy for those experiencing homelessness has made a lasting impact on our community.

Waterbury is truly losing an incredible officer, and his absence will certainly be felt. However, we are incredibly proud of all that he has accomplished and confident that the Waterbury Police Department will continue the important work and strong foundation he has helped build.

Congratulations on your well-deserved retirement, Captain Stokes. Thank you for your service, compassion, and dedication to the people of Waterbury. Wishing you nothing but the very best in this next chapter.

☀️ Brian Gibbons Homeless Outreach was proud to be part of this important discussion. Far too often, conversations surrounding homelessness focus primarily on extreme cold weather, while extreme heat and poor air quality are placed on the back burner.

The reality is that all extreme weather events put our unsheltered neighbors at serious risk. We must identify and implement a plan that protects individuals experiencing homelessness year-round (not just during the winter months.) ❄️
