Navajo Forest Products- NFPI Cleanup Advisory Group

Navajo Forest Products- NFPI Cleanup Advisory Group Navajo Forest Products-NFPI Cleanup Group is a grassroots organization from the Red Lake Chapter (Navajo, NM) and surrounding communities.

We have organized to ensure the environmental cleanup of the abandoned NFPI sawmill and affected surrounding areas. The NFPI CAG will work with the local and surrounding communities of Red Lake Chapter and the Navajo Nation to promote the awareness, education, and proper and complete clean-up of environmental contaminants and hazards that are present in our water, soil, and air as a result of the

Navajo Forestry Products Industry sawmill that operated for 35 years and was abruptly closed in 1994 without proper decommissioning or cleanup.

What are your thoughts about these preliminary Redevelopment Plans for the former NFPI site (zoom in to see the details)? These are not final, and nothing is promised... this is merely asking for public input about FUTURE redevelopment of the site (as there is still more assessments needed and remediation/clean-up of the site). Your feedback is appreciated.

The team presented before a Council work session on the old NFPI site. The community is asking for funding to help Navajo EPA continue assessments and remediation/clean-up of the site and other areas (old dump, creek and lake). Please talk to your Council Delegate about the importance of cleaning up the old NFPI site and other areas it impacted, making our community safe and beautiful, and putting those lands back into beneficial use.
