🏫 Texas school districts have two budgets: Maintenance & Operations (M&O) and Interest & Sinking (I&S).

M&O pays for day-to-day expenses such as salaries, benefits, student programs, supplies, maintenance, food, and fuel. I&S pays down debt on bonds for construction, renovations, large repairs, and other bond projects.

Prop A would provide additional funding for Nederland ISD’s M&O budget, which funds the district’s day-to-day operations.

🎥 What happens when student learning needs grow while support positions are reduced?

In Nederland ISD, more students are being identified with special learning needs, including dyslexia, ADHD, and autism, as well as other emotional and physical disabilities. At the same time, Math and Reading Interventionist positions that were in place at every elementary and middle school four years ago have since been removed due to budget cuts.

Prop A would allow the district to fill hard-to-staff positions.

👥 As the cost of living and health insurance premiums continue to rise, teachers and staff could effectively take home less without future pay increases.

Nederland ISD approved a 7% increase across the board for teachers and staff last year. Proposition A includes $1.1 million for teacher and staff pay and would allow the district to continue providing pay increases to all staff in the future.

As the largest employer in the community, Nederland ISD has more than 690 employees whose wages could increase through Prop A.

Since voters approved the 2019 Bond, the District has also paid off $7.74 million in bond principal early using cash on hand, resulting in nearly $2.45 million in long-term interest savings for taxpayers over the last six years.

These results reflect Nederland ISD’s continued focus on responsible financial stewardship and delivering projects as planned.

📚 More students in Nederland ISD are being identified with special learning needs such as dyslexia, ADHD, and autism, as well as other emotional and physical disabilities.

At the same time, budget cuts have reduced some student support positions. Four years ago, every elementary and middle school had Math and Reading Interventionists. Those positions have since been removed.

Proposition A would allow Nederland ISD to reinstate these positions.

Our Transportation Dept. has been out checking road conditions this evening, and the following Bus Stop changes will take effect tomorrow, until further notice.

Anyone who resides in Beauxart Gardens on Central Dr., N Garden Rd., and Park Loop will need to catch the bus at N. Garden Rd and S. Garden Rd. The bus is unable to access the regular route due to downed trees and powerlines.

At this time all other routes will run as regularly scheduled. If you know of an area or see something concerning please reach out to our Transportation Supervisor, Dustin Vollert at [email protected].

📣 NEDERLAND ISD WILL RESUME REGULAR SCHEDULES TOMORROW

Nederland ISD will resume regular school schedules tomorrow, Thursday, September 3, 2026.

We know our students, families, and staff have worked hard over the past several days to recover from the storm, and we appreciate your patience and understanding as we navigated power outages and other challenges throughout our community.

We are excited to welcome our Bulldogs back tomorrow! 🖤💛

⚠️ Nederland ISD UPDATE at 4:35 pm on September 2, 2026 ⚠️

We are currently waiting on power restoration at Nederland High School and are continuing to monitor the situation.

The District will make an announcement at 6:00 pm today regarding the final determination for school tomorrow, Thursday, September 3.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to make the best decision for the safety of our students and staff.
